Natalia falls silent on the phone. “No, I hadn’t thought about that.”
I send a prayer up to heaven to help me deal with her. “Please, can you do this for me?”
Silence falls again.
“We should all be there to support her. I don’t care if after you go back to hating her, but in that moment, she needs us to be there for her,” I implore my sister.
“Fine. Message me the details and I’ll be there,” she grumbles. Thank heavens. “What are you and Paige going to do now that you’re no longer engaged to Giada?”
I look over at Paige, and she gives me a shrug. “I don’t think Paige and I can go walking hand in hand down the streets just yet.”
“Where are you now?”
“Paige’s apartment.”
“Good, no one should know where that is. Be careful, this is blowing up everywhere already and you know the paparazzi are hunting you down as we speak,” Natalia states.
“I know,” I say, running my hand nervously through my hair, this is the exact situation I never wanted to put Paige in, but it’s happening now.
“Good luck, Gio. Call me if you need anything. Say hi to Paige for me.” And with that, she’s gone.
“Shit’s about to get real now, isn’t it?” Paige asks.
I nod. “Yeah, it is.” I can’t sugarcoat it for her.
I watch as Paige takes a deep breath and looks down at her phone as it starts buzzing. “Callie and Sav just saw the post.”
Shit.
“Come here,” I say, pulling Paige into my lap. “I love you,” I tell her as I cup her face. “I will not let anything happen to you. Do you hear me?”
She nods.
“Once I leave this apartment today, I’m not sure when I’m going to be able to get back. I will not lead them to your door, do you understand me?”
“Yes.”
“We are free of one prison, but we’ve entered another. I’ll understand if …”
Her brows pull together. “If what?”
I suck in a steady breath. “If you don’t want this anymore, I understand. Things are about to get crazy, and I will not let them drag you into this mess.”
Paige reaches out and wraps her arms around my neck. “You tried to protect me from this happening fifteen years ago, and yet here we are.”
My stomach sinks.
“I’m glad you are giving me the option now, unlike back then,” she says, those dark eyes narrowing on me. Because I would have given you the same answer then as I am now. I’m all in because I love you,” she says.
Fuck, I don’t deserve this woman.
“I love you, too,” I tell her as our foreheads meet.
“Good, now take me to bed and show me how much. If we have to be apart for a bit, I want you to fuck me so good that I’ll be able to feel you inside me even when you’re not there.”
“Fuck, P,” I curse.
How the hell can I say no to that?
