“I don’t understand. Why?”
Seraphina wipes her hands on her long white gown. “They got it in their heads that they should rule because they come from rulers. They were wrong, all of them. The world will be ruled by us: vampires, wolves, and whomever we deem fit. That is the divine order.”
“No.” I can feel my limbs go numb. I was on the wrong side of history.
“Enough talking. Let us do what we came here to do, Seraphina. Then we can meet with Ambrose. He should have captured the little vermin by now.”
Seraphina’s smile is wicked, “And the witch. I sure hope your kid survived the attack. It would be a shame if he were to die so young.”
Pain slashes through me. How could they be capable of so much vileness?
“You won’t get away with this,” I shout.
“Yeah,” one says. “Who’s going to stop us?” the other finishes.
I want to argue and tell them that they could never win, but they are doing something to my head that is so excruciatingly painful that I can’t think.
My knees buckle.
I want to scream, but I collapse to the ground, and everything goes black.
Chapter 26
Jade
The moment I step inside the house, I am immediately attacked. I am taking on vampire after vampire non-stop.Is this really because I’m a fairy?
The room is in chaos as I try to fend off each attacker, but they keep coming at me. There’s no time to think or reason why this is happening. My adrenaline is pumping, my mind is racing, and I’m desperately trying to defend myself in a blur of clashes, kicks, and dodges.
One vampire comes charging at me, and I recognize him. He is Davis, the Uber driver who brought me home. He must have known who I was the entire time.
Where the fuck is Mariya?
I am covered in blood and sweat from all the scratches, but I am holding my own.
I grab a vase and smash it into Davis’ head, and watch as he crumples to the ground. I am so glad to have received some martial arts training from Mariya, but I know I am outmatched. The only two things keeping me alive are adrenaline and my fairy powers.
I rush to the kitchen and grab the knife I see on the counter.
I can hear some commotion upstairs.Shit! There are more of them! What the hell do they want?
I try to tiptoe when I am stopped in my tracks by someone clapping. I turn to my left to see Ambrose leaning against the wall, watching me.
“What the fuck are you doing here?”
“Is that any way to talk to your guests, fairy?”
Fuck!So, he knows.
I am ready to charge towards him when he raises his hand. “You might want to rethink that.” He whistles, and four people come down the stairs.
My heart drops.
The first person I don’t recognize, but he is holding a knife against Mariya’s neck.
I recognize the second person as the Uber driver who took me to Alyssa’s. And in his arms, he is carrying Liam, who looks half asleep.
My blood runs cold.
