Fuck! Now for the ultimatum, “Now for the other requirements.”
“Yeah?” she asks.
“One, I will need you to resign from my company. In the last few days, you have not made a good impression. Your behavior has been unprofessional, and I don’t think you are the right fit at Night Corp. I get that your friend was in danger, but my company is important to me, so unfortunately, you need to resign, or I will have to let you go.”
“But—”
“And the other thing, Jade, we don’t speak about that night ever.”
Her green eyes turn molten as she stares me down, “Youarehiding things from me.”
“Those are my conditions. Take them or leave them.”
Her hands fold in front of her chest, pushing her breasts upwards. I am momentarily distracted, feeling my face warm. There is an immediate jolt of awareness as my cock stirs to life.
See, this is why we can’t work together.
She is breathing heavily, angrily, but she also knows that she is cornered and she has no option but to agree to my terms.
When she keeps her silence for a few more moments, I place the sweater on the table and turn to leave, “Suit yourself, Ms. Easton. Good luck finding your friend.”
I feel like an asshole right now, but what other option do I have?
I have just reached her door when she stops me, “Fuck! Gabriel, wait.”
I turn to her, knowing I have her right where I want her, “What?”
“I’ll take it. I will take the deal. Just bring Alyssa back to me.”
I march straight past her and pick the sweater back up, “Glad to see that we’re on the same page. Don’t mention this to anyone, or our deal is off.”
She reluctantly nods her head, and I walk out of her apartment. The sooner I get this over and done with, the faster I can get back to my life.
Chapter 5
Gabriel
I’m seated in my home office, the weight of my concerns bearing down on me. I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that I willingly agreed to help Jade. I know I am getting what I wanted regarding her employment, but I’ve also just ensured that I will see her again.
Gabe, you should’ve thought this through!
But that’s exactly the point. I can’t think when she’s near me.
Mariya enters the room, her presence a reassuring balm in the midst of my mounting worries. “Just put Liam down. Now, did you manage to get the stuff?” she inquires, curiously..
I respond with a nod, placing the items on my desk.
Mariya takes a moment to inspect them, her fingers lightly grazing the sweater's fabric before shifting her attention to the pendant. She can’t help but tease me. Her smirk is evident as she remarks, “Seriously? A friendship necklace?”
I chuckle in response. “Uh-huh. You know it’s important, Mariya. Can you find her? Help me track her down. It’s urgent.”
She doesn’t hesitate or ask any questions. “Yeah, I can find anyone. I just need to set up for the spell.”
“Okay, Mariya.”
Mariya leaves briefly, returning with an old, weathered book that I instantly recognize as her grimoire. She places it on the desk, alongside several other items essential for the spell. These include a silver athame, a smudge stick of sage, a small vial of moon water, and a chunk of amethyst. Then she lights candles and places them all around my office.
I just watch and wait, mystified by what she can do.
