CHAPTER 1

Maya’s day had been one long series of delays and mistakes. Everyone had days like that, and normally it wouldn’t have been a huge problem, except it was Valentine’s Day and she had a date planned with her Daddy.

Getting him to go out on Valentine’s Day, or any other specific holiday, was usually difficult. He wasn’t a fan of crowds and after facing people all day long in his court, he preferred their evenings out to be on the quieter side.

And normally she just rolled her eyes and went along with it when it came to birthdays and most other holidays. A day or two really didn’t make a difference as long as theydidget to go out, but this was a special day.

It was a day of romance. It was a day of passion, and more importantly, it was also the fifth anniversary of their first date. That had been the first and last time he’d taken her out on February fourteenth. It hadn’t seemed to matter so much before, but celebrating five years together seemed more special.

Plus she wanted to show off her sexy Daddy on the actual day for a change. Getting him to agree however, well, that hadn’t been easy at all.

“It’s just an arbitrary date, Maya. It’s going to be ridiculously packed on Friday. Not only is it the fourteenth but it’s also the weekend. Why don’t we just make reservations for Thursday?” He was using his placating tone, as if she was being unreasonable. “We won’t have to fight the crowds and on Friday we can have a romantic evening home. Doesn’t that sound like fun?”

Logically she agreed with him. Even getting a reservation would have been hard at this point, if her husband wasn’t well known in town. Their favorite places would certainly find a table for them even on an especially crowded evening—being a judge had its perks after all.

He didn’t like to use his authority that way, but she’d be fine with doing it. “Daddy, that’s not the point. It’s five years. That’s super special. It’s like… like a lifetime.” She could hear that Middle whine creeping into her voice, but she didn’t stop it.

For some reason her Daddy had an easier time saying no to his wife, than he did saying no to the younger side of her. And the Middle attitude he’d get if he didn’t give in was probably an incentive too. Maya was really good at pouting when she was in the right headspace.

“It is special, and it will be special at home too. We can order in, and maybe pick out a couple desserts to share?” Now he was trying to bribe her. Daddy didn’t have a sweet tooth like she did, and didn’t usually approve of a lot of sugary foods.

She folded her arms around her chest, bottom lip rolling out as she huffed. “It’s not the same.”

He frowned. “Maya…”

“I want to go out for our special anniversary! I want to get dressed up and—” She cut herself off with a dramatic sniffle. Her vision was getting blurry from the tears she’d let fill her eyes.

Rick growled. “Maya, you’re not fooling anyone, and those fake tears aren’t going to get you anything but a trip over my knee.” He snapped the words out in his strictest Daddy tone.

He wasn’t wrong, most of the dramatics were fake and they both knew it. But there was a little part of her that was sad about missing the romantic evening out. There was something about a date on Valentine’s Day that just seemed different.

She loved their evenings at home, but they could, and did, have home dates all the time. It took a few crocodile tears falling, and a pointed comment or two that implied he didn’t love her enough to actually take her out, but in the end, she got her way.

Eventually.

First, she got a spanking for being a manipulative brat. It came with a long mean lecture too about using their love to blackmail him. She didn’t think it was entirely fair, because he knew very well she hadn’t meant any of it, but she couldn’t deny it was worth the price.

When it was over, and she’d wiped away the very real tears that came with the hot bottom he’d just given her, he pulled her into his lap and sighed. “Fine, we’ll get dressed and go out, but I hope you’re prepared for a very long night. If I’m going to face the crowds and the sappy romance themes all over, then I expect to be properly rewarded when we get home.”

“I’ll reward you so hard, Daddy. So hard,” she agreed, emphasizing the words in a very specific way, to make the innuendo in the promise clear. And then, just to prove she was going to make it worth his effort, she gave him a little advance preview right then and there.

It had ended up a satisfying evening all around and the next day she’d worked her magic to get them a special table at Rick’s favorite Italian restaurant. She would have preferred something else, but it would help to ease his mood, and she didn’t really care where they went as long as it was romantic.

She went shopping after work and bought herself a new dress; short and sexy, with matching shoes. The heels could colloquially be called ‘fuck me pumps’ and she’d regret wearing them after five minutes on her feet, but when Rick saw her legs, his jaw would hit the floor. She could put up with aching arches for that kind of reaction.

But then Friday rolled around and it started to feel like the universe was conspiring against her. She woke late and even after two cups of coffee she was dragging. The cute little V-day candy boxes she’d put together for work tipped over in the backseat of the car, making her even later while she scrambled to put them back together so they looked cute again.

They did bring smiles to the faces of the people she worked with at the courthouse, and that made it worth it for her. She loved doing little things for people, especially on the holidays. The pink-and-white boxes with the little conversation heart designs weren’t anything spectacular, but they did make people happy. Candy always made people happy—well, almost always.

She wished she’d thought to make an extra one for herself, because she ended up working through lunch so she could get out on time. It put her in a cranky mood. It didn’t help that the afternoon session was particularly grueling, but the upside was that the judge decided to end the day earlier than usual. Maya suspected he had Valentine’s plans of his own.

Or maybe he was just tired of listening to the lawyers sniping at each other. They seemed to dislike each other almost as much as their clients did. Either way, she was glad to get out of there early so she could prepare for her date.

A long hot soak in the tub was on her agenda. When she was done, every inch of her would be primped, pampered, and smelling like flowers. At least that was the plan.

Things did not go according to plan. As she got into the car, she realized she had somehow ruined her stockings by snaggingthem, and the long runs were very obvious. Worse, that morning she’d noticed they were her last pair.

It should have been a quick stop to pick up another pair, but apparently, she wasn’t the only one who needed to make last minute stops. The drugstore had a line going all the way to the back of the store, but at least she managed to grab the last pair of thigh-high stockings. Rick preferred them to pantyhose for the easy access.
