“No, it didn’t even cross my mind, sorry, you can borrow something of mine, and I’ll grab your stuff on my way back later,” I say, gesturing towards the wardrobe.
When I walk back out the door, Dan chomps at the bit for more information. I ignore him and carry on working.
“I’ve already texted Em to tell her, she is going to love this. You know they’re having a drink together tomorrow at the pub right?”
“Do you two tell each other everything?”
“Yeah man, it’s great, although it’s normally Em with the juicy stuff. Not this time though!”
Millie walks back out a few minutes later wearing one of my t-shirts, and I think it’s the hottest thing I have ever seen. I’m not even sure she is wearing underwear, which only makes me want her more.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt.” She looks down at herself when she sees me looking at her, my eyes following every move of hers. “I had a little trouble getting dressed, do you have any coffee?”
“I don’t think Jack minds, and yes the machine is over there,” Dan points and smirks at me.
I kick him under the table and he laughs at me. I feel like a school kid looking at his crush.
“I’m Dan by the way, Emilie, Jack’s right-hand man, best friend, business partner and soon to be brother-in-law.”
“Nice to put a name to the face,” she says and almost sighs when she sees how far away the coffee machine is.
“Take a seat, I’ll get you a coffee.”
“I’ll stay standing, thanks. It may take me a while to stand back up again after last night.”
Dan almost sprays his coffee everywhere at her words, I chuckle and Millie just looks so confused.
“Did I say something funny?” she asks, frowning at Dan.
“Dan has the wrong end of the stick,” how can I put this…”He thinks we spent last night doing… each other” Millie’s face somehow pales then goes red almost at the same time.
“Do I? Really? She comes out of your room half naked, then tells me that! NO way, you two didn’t do the nasty last night!” I’m not sure Dan will let this go; the smile on his face is huge.
“You put me in your room?” she says, looking directly at me and avoiding any eye contact with Dan.
“Why do you ask?” Now I’m confused. Why would that matter?
“You’re engaged, that’s why I’m asking. What will she think? Oh god!” she turns away, too embarrassed to look at me.
Now I’m really confused.Where would she get the idea that I’m engaged from?I’ve definitely not given the impression I’mwith someone else. The way I’ve been with her, definitely says I’m single.
“Emilie, you keep making this day get better and better,” Dan says, laughing still. “Why would you think Mr No Relationships would be engaged?” A little harsh, but also true.
“Who do you think I’m engaged to?” I can’t help but laugh, and I see her face get redder when she turns around to face me, the colour almost matching her long curly red hair. She looks down, embarrassed, like she is questioning herself.
“The other day…? In the estate agents?”
But before she can finish, Dan interrupts, leaping up at the same time, coming to stand next to me. Putting his arm over my shoulder. He is having so much fun right now, he will be talking about this for weeks.
“You think he is engaged to Emma?” He’s trying his damnedest to not laugh.
“She is pretty hot if you ask me,” he says, eyeing me from the side.
“Get off,” I say to Dan, shoving him off me, “and no, I’m not engaged to anyone and especially not Emma. That’s my sister!” I pull a face letting her know just the thought of what she has said makes me want to vomit.
Millie lets out a little giggle, and it sounds amazing and I just watch her for a second.
“I’m so sorry, it’s just the way you said you would talk about the wedding later, then gave her a kiss on the head, I just assumed she was your fiancée. Sorry.”
