He turned to the espresso machine and began the process of making her drink with what felt to her like an overdramatic dedication to deliberateness.
Not that an espresso wasn’t appreciated at any time, but at the moment, she felt like maybe they had something to discuss. Recent experience had taught her Apollo would not instigate. She would have to push.
“Is it?”
“You know, I have never fully understood—and this could be because English is my second language—whethergood morningwas a statement about the fact the morning was a good one, or if it was a wish that the other person have agood morning.”
“I couldn’t say. Nor do I think it’s entirely relevant to our present situation.”
“Which is?” he asked.
“Well. There’s the fact that we got married.”
“Yes. And that has changed things. I assume you will be headed to the corporate offices today,” he said.
“Not today. They’re in New York.”
He lifted a brow. “Oh, I’m well aware of where they are.”
She scoffed. “I don’t have a plane ticket.”
“You do have free use of the private jet,” he said, waving his hand. “Your father’s. Or mine, if you so choose.”
“Why?”
“The stipulations of the will—”
She narrowed her eyes. “I am aware of the stipulations of the will, but why are you offering up the use of your plane?”
“Because you have work to do. Do you not?”
“I think we should probably make the team aware—”
“They’re aware,” he said. “After all, the board had to approve the marriage.” He took a sip of his coffee. He seemed so unbothered she wanted to shake him.
“You’ve already talked to them, haven’t you?”
“Obviously. I have told everyone that they are to expect a visit from you this week. I will accompany you, of course.”
No. She needed distance from him. She didn’t want it, but she needed it, and him going with her to New York was just...no.
“Why? You’ve never had anything to do with the day-to-day running of the business.”
“I haven’t, you’re correct. But neither have you. And I want to make sure that everything runs smoothly.”
“You don’t have previous commitments of your own network to deal with?”
“Cameron owes me roughly a decade of service. If I wanted to show up at nothing for the next ten years he would simply have to take it on the chin.”
She waited for him to move on to the next thing. To at least acknowledge that last night things had changed between them.
“So... That’s all you have to say?”
“Was there another conversation you wanted to have?”
“Yes. There is,” she said, staring at him hard.
“About the sex, I assume.”
