“Don’t worry, baby. I’m not going to hurt you.”

Sasha frowned. “Shane?”

“Yeah, you remember my voice?”

Remember? His voice was the only thing she could think about. The way her body awakened at the simple tones of his voice surprised her. The guys in high school had never been successful in making her feel anything. She’d never been great with understanding what boys or men wanted from her.

She nodded her head, staring straight ahead of her. Was the parking lot completely tarmacked over, or were there flower beds dotted around to give it a more caring feel? Why was she thinking about the parking lot when Shane was close to her?

“You shouldn’t be out on your own.”

“I’m waiting for my stepdad to pick me up.”

“And he left you on your own?”

Not down to choice.

There were still some men, richmen, her stepfather had to suck up to. She didn’t know the man’s name even though he had a rich Italian accent. Anyway, rich Italian accent guy had advised for her to go to the library. She got away with the help of a kind sounding secretary. Sasha hadn’t recognized the smell or sound of the woman helping her.

“I guess.”

“Look, I know you can’t see me and I’m sorry about that, but I just needed to see you.”

She frowned. “You sound sad.”

“Shit, you’re blind. You’re not supposed to know that kind of stuff.”

“You can’t disguise your voice.” She folded her arms for something to do.

What did he look like? She imagined lots of tattoos and a hard body like some of the action stars she used to watch.

“I just lost someone who meant the world to me,” he said.

“I’m so sorry.”

“She was a beautiful woman.”

Jealousy struck her hard. He loved another woman. But then guilt hit at her thoughts. He didn’t deserve her to be angry. They hadn’t agreed to anything, and this was the first time he’d actually talked to her.

Had he sought her out?

No, that was crazy. There was no way Shane would seek her out. She would bet every cent she owned that he was never without female company.

“Was she your wife or girlfriend?”

Shane laughed. “No, she wasn’t my girlfriend. She was a club whore. Don’t worry, pet. You don’t have a clue what’s going on. I just needed to talk to someone, and I don’t know why the fuck I thought to come to you.”

She heard him move, and she reached out, holding onto thin air. Growling in frustration she took a step forward and tripped. Sasha let out a little squeal just before he caught her. His arms banded around her body, holding her steady.

“What the fuck, baby?”

Her head pressed against his chest as he spoke. The vibrations were amazing to feel. His body had to be twice the size of hers. The moment he touched her, those large hands wrapped around her body, she felt safe. This was insane. She couldn’t be feeling this way about a man she didn’t even know.

“I’m sorry. I just didn’t want you to go.” She steadied herself.

Shane walked her back until the wall stopped her from going anywhere.

“Shane, what’s going on?” she asked. Heat bloomed inside her body. She wanted him to kiss her lips.
