She stumbled into my arms, gripping me so tight that she crushed the thought to dust. I drew her against me as an uneven purr rumbled to life in her chest.

Ah… Fuck.

“I love you,” I breathed.

It was done; she was ours, and even I couldn’t contend with my rising tide of relief.

The Lincoln pack would never be able to touch her.

My eyes found Dusk’s again as he vanished from the bond. I’d never seen him look this shocked in my life.

Shatter broke from me only when she spied Ransom in the room. Her eyes were nervous again.

“He’s been dying to meet you,” I told her, nudging her forward.

She blinked, swallowing, clearly trying to find words. “H-hi.”

Ransom cupped the back of his neck, and was doing that freakishly-still-reptilian thing he did when he was observing something he didn’t quite know how to process. “A dark bond?” he asked, voice rough.

“I… I asked for it.” I nudged another step, and she stepped toward him awkwardly, wringing her hands. “I um… I guess I’m in your pack and you don’t even really know me.”

“What’s new?” he said, a smile twitching on his lips. His pupils were blown wide as he took her in, and there was nothing but a primal curiosity from him down the bond until he snapped it shut, eyes flicking to me like he’d felt me prodding.

“You’re uh…” Shatter swallowed, her head flinching in our direction like she wanted to look at us again. “…Really pretty.”

Ransom’s grin was cocky this time.

She shouldn’t be throwing compliments around like that; they went to his head quick. I grinned too, then caught Dusk’s eye, which reignited the building volcano of fury that had built as I’d rushed in here.

“What the fuck were you thinking?”I mouthed.

He rubbed his face, looking lost.

He replied under his breath as Shatter said something else to Ransom. “She was… Very…” He trailed off with a wince. “…sad.”

Oh, for fuck’s sake.

“Of course she was, you fucking prat—after everything?”

I still couldn’t say truthfully I was unhappy, but a dark bond was for life. And she was… well, even with her state of panic, she was… pleased. Really pleased.

It wasDuskwho wasn’t.

He was supposed to be the calculated one. The one who listened to Decebal and his stupid good ideas.

Right now he looked… Well, actually he looked horrified, running his fingers through his hair.“She was crying.”

“Oh, now that’s a problem for you—?” I cut off as I took a proper look at his torso. What in the fuck had he done to himself?

They’d both gone and cracked.

No fucking warning.

“Next time you need a babysitter, fucking well tell me—” I cut off at a spike of surprise from Shatter down the bond, and then a thump across the room.

We both looked over to see Ransom had pinned her against the wall. Her legs were tangled around his waist, and they were making out intensely.

We both stared for a long, long moment, before what they’d been saying clicked in my head.
