Flynn: I don’t know. Ransom still hasn’t shown. What are they playing at? They can’t stay here if he won’t attend.
Eric: I always get the feeling their pack lead is mocking us. Just me?
Flynn: He was so fucking pissed when he caught you eyeing up his omega.
Eric: She’s the one who can’t stop staring at us. Fucking weirdo, if you ask me. They gave her a nest, and she still wants us.
Flynn: What pack gives an omega like that a star before term even starts? It’s a fucking insult. She doesn’t fit here, either.
Eric: She looks ready to burst into tears if you speak to her wrong.
Gareth: I’d still fuck her.
Eric: Think they’d drop out if we got her to give us that star?
Gareth: So… fuck with their omega and take her star?
Flynn: We’d blow up any chance of an alliance.
Eric: Fuck the alliance. They’re not serious and they’re not going to last. Besides, they’re obsessed with her, they might just go packing if we fuck that up. Once they’re out, we’re top anyway, right?
Gareth: Or they’ll come for us. Not really that bothered, though. Never even seen Ransom.
Flynn: They won’t. Not if we get her to give us the star.
Eric: I think I have a way to do it. You said she overheard me talking about her? What was it she said?
Decebal: Nothing else. They left the apartment. This was at lunch today. Be careful.
Sickness turned my stomach at what I’d read.Where was she?
Roxy. She’d gone with Roxy.
I was already crossing to my door. I couldn't risk Shatter getting anywhere near the Lincoln pack, not if she was their target. I reached the hallway, heart pounding in my chest. I tried to keep my panic to myself so I didn’t disturb Umbra and Ransom tonight.
I just needed to know where she was, and I’d settle. Plus, they didn't know Shatter was gold pack, which kept her safer.
I knew a thousand vile truths about the Lincoln pack and what they were capable of. They had no boundaries when it came to omegas, not when pride was involved.
We’d tracked them for a while, digging into their every move, above or below board. Before the academy, they frequented social clubs that hosted gold packs for entertainment—places that all but owned the omegas in their ‘employ’. All were gold packs with outcast designations—omegas who had broken the law or were deemed dangerous.
And they especially favoured establishments with the least rules possible. They were particularly competitive with other packs. One night, they’d lost a lot of money to another pack. The next, they’d paid for an evening with the omega their rival pack favoured. We couldn’t find the exact details, but whatever they’ddone was so bad the establishment had removed her from their roster.
I wouldn’t let something like that happen to Shatter.
Scanning the hallway before me, I spotted the room she and Roxy studied in, but when I opened it, I found it empty, and my blood chilled as I caught the faintest trace of passionfruit in the air.
Eric had been in here?
Where was she?
I was left, frozen for a long, panicked second before I ripped my phone from my pocket, opening the tracker I hadn’t used since I’d caught her sneaking off to the library.
ELEVEN
SHATTER
Numbness settled over my body as I reached the Kingsman apartment.
