“Of course.”

That sounded like a friendship thing, right? Real friendship…

Not just study partners?

I did like her so much, but I had a bad habit of misreading this kind of thing.

“So…” Roxy prodded. “How was your week?” I spotted something mischievous in her sapphire blue eyes as she looked me up and down. “You look… well.”

I bit my lip, cheeks heating up. “It was… good.”

Oh, this was confusing. How much was I supposed to say?

“I uh…”

She giggled, elbowing me. “You don’t need to tell.”

Did omegas usually talk about things like this? Heats and… pack stuff?

“You’re definitely going to take the school by surprise again.”

Oh dear. “What are they saying?” I asked, voice high.

“Okay. People are a little obsessed with your pack to be honest.”

“Tell me.” I didn’t know why I was asking. If it was bad, I’d just stew on it.

“Well, no one thinks you went to a clinic since no one saw you leave. So… you had a…” She side-eyed me. “I’m just saying what everyone else is.”

“What?”

“So obviously it was a rut or a heat, and you chose to have it with them. But no bond—still?”

“Oh…” Shit.

Right.

I’d taken a week off school. There was clearly only one thing that could mean.

Being chosen by a pack didn’t mean I had to spend heats with them—well, for omegas to which the rules applied in the first place, which I definitely wasn’t.

Damn it.

We studied in silence for a while longer, and she seemed comfortable as I processed that. I couldn’t keep track of what all of this meant for my reputation. Was it good or bad?

Was Roxy judging me?

She didn’tseemto be.

“What would you do if you met your scent matches?” I asked after a while. I needed to find a way to get the conversation where I needed it.

Roxy considered that, a sly smile on her lips. “Why?”

“I don’t know, I just… I wanted your opinion.”

“Well…” She looked thoughtful, pen tapping on her cheek. “I think if I met my scent matches, and they were… rich, andenamoured with the same studies as me, then I don’t see myself holding back.” She gave me a meaningful look that was anything but meaningful to my stunned brain.

What?
