Now she was pack-free, it wasn’t mandatory—though it was encouraged.

“I think I’ll keep one of them. Otherwise, I thought of transferring into another Arkology class.”

“Really?” I asked, eyeing a few pieces on a plate full of pretty cheese.

That sounded exciting. I knew Dusk attended an Arkology class on Tuesday and Thursday morning. Maybe we could take that class together, too?

I opened my mouth, about to ask if she would mind that, when a familiar, snide voice behind me drew me up.

“I hadnoidea.” Eric’s voice was obnoxiously loud. “If I had known it was a gold pack bitch at the time, I might have been a bit rougher.”

I tensed, breath catching in my lungs.

It took all my courage, but I forced myself to turn.

Eric stood further down the snack table with the same blonde omega I’d seen earlier. Roxy was stiff, fury blazing in her blue eyes as she stared at him.

Then Dusk was there, stepping in front of me before I could do anything.

I caught the scent of midnight opium and lily of the valley, and my heart settled, if only a little. I still didn’t want Dusk getting too close.

Eric grinned. “Did you see the video?” he asked, gaze shifting to Dusk. “I made it just for you—and Ransom Kingsman turning up in time to pick up my used trash?—”

Ransom’s aura split the air, and he closed the distance, fist in Eric’s shirt.

I noticed security move from the edges of the room. I reacted before thinking, slipping past Dusk and closing my grip around Ransom’s arm.

“Ransom,” I whispered.

It wasn’t because I didn’t want to see Eric hurt, but I could feel Ransom waver on the edge of that madness. The one I’d pulled him from in the first place.

My mates were not worth him tumbling back over that ledge.

With what looked like painful difficulty, Ransom released Eric’s shirt. He didn’t back off, though, his massive aura still shivering in the air.

Eric looked far too unperturbed. Perhaps he didn’t think Ransom would attack him in public. Perhaps he wanted him to.

Everyone was watching, security hovering, but not yet intervening.

And then Eric went absolutely still, aura flickering in the space for a second as his gaze snapped to me.

Unwavering.

There was utter shock in his eyes.

It was the moment—I knew—he caught my scent.

My heart slammed against my ribs, nails digging into Ransom’s arm to steady my breathing.

Endless seconds passed as we stared at one another, as if he couldn’t understand what he was seeing. His face had drained of all its remaining colour.

But he knew.

He knew at that moment, gaze locked on me.

It was no longer a secret.

“What?” Gareth’s voice drew my attention as he stepped up to Eric, and then Flynn was there too.
