I realised my fist had closed around her stupid ponytail.
It wasn’t a conscious decision to fight Dusk’s command, but the red of my vision only intensified with the spark of pain that tore across my body at the defiance of the dark bond. I growled again, and then Jasmine whined in terror as my teeth sank into her neck.
My body shook with thrilling instinct as I held it there, and Jasmine went limp in my grip, a terrified whine in her chest.
What I’d just offered her was nothing close to a bond.
It was a threat.
The pain drained away as Dusk released the command, and then I felt his touch on my neck. Cupping it gently.
“Shatter.”
No.
I wasn’t done.
Jasmine was shaking beneath me, more pathetic whines sounding with each panicked heave of her chest.
“You won, Gem. You can let her go.”
I frowned, then released my bite at last, knowing there would be blood on my lips. I didn’t care.
I… I had what?
Won?
Won what?
Oh… Ohdear…
The world flooded back in and horror rose in my chest. We were in the middle of the ball. My gaze flicked up from the pooling blood on Jasmine’s neck.
I’d bitten her.
The whole room was watching.
Dusk cupped my neck more firmly as he gently drew me back, further from Jasmine.
Jasmine scrambled back the moment she was free. “Get your filthy fucking gold pack b?—”
“Finish that sentence, Omega—”Dusk’s growl was more cutting than I’d ever heard it.“—and I will finish what she started.”
He didn’t even look at her. His yellow eyes were fixed on me.
Then, before I could even catch my breath, he’d dragged me forward by my neck and pressed his lips to mine. I melted into his touch, the kiss and its iron tang of blood returning my sanity. Then he was drawing me to my feet, not a care for the watching eyes of everyone in the room. When I glanced in Jasmine’s direction she was fleeing, unsteady on her heels.
Dusk leaned forward again for another kiss, and this time his teeth caught my lip, a rumbling purr in his chest as he heldme close. When he drew back he lifted a hand and wiped away what I knew had to be a smear of blood on my cheek. When he sat, he drew me onto his lap, arms winding around my waist possessively.
My whole body was hot with embarrassment as I glanced at Ransom and Roxy.
To my surprise, Roxy was failing to hide a look of delight, while Ransom was staring at me with blown pupils and a feral glint in his eye.
“Gem.” Dusk cupped my neck, thumb running along my jaw as he tilted my head up, his voice a low growl in my ear. “You never have to fight to prove we’re yours. That’s our job. I was about to tell Jasmine to fuck off.”
“Keyword—haveto,” Ransom put in. “Like I said before—it’s fucking hot.”
Roxy’s giggle drew a nervous smile upon my own lips. “If anyone was wondering about territory,” she said. “They aren’t anymore.”
