Page 6 of Snake's Fate

Hawk is just like his dad, rowdy as hell with a temper to match.

“What’d he do this time?” I ask, extremely curious.

“Pushed another little boy into a mud puddle and then sat on his back, not letting him up.”

I can’t help it, I laugh so hard my eyes tear up.

“It’s really not funny, Snake.” Mina puts her hands up on her hips.

“Come on, Mina, it’s not that bad besides, I bet he had a damn good reason for doing so.” I raise my brows as I watch her try to contain her own grin. “What was the reason?” I prod once again.

“The little boy apparently tripped a little girl as she was running by.”

“See? Damn good reason!” I laugh again as I turn back towards the clubhouse.

“I guess I can agree in this case. Anyway, can you meet the lady tomorrow?”

“Sure. It’s not a problem.” Just before I head inside I turn back to her. “What’s her name?”

“Her name is Teresa. I can’t remember the last name though at the moment.” She turns back just in time to see the prospects drop a vase and she heads off in their direction.

I head on inside not wanting to see or hear the tongue lashing those two are about to get.

The entire place gets completely transformed just in time for Bear to pick up Sara from work. If I can judge from her face, she really was surprised.

She actually thought everyone forgot about her special day because no one called her to wish her a happy day.

I spend the rest of the night getting shitfaced with the other guys and wishing I had what quite a few of them already do.

I’ve watched on, in the background, as most of my brothers have found someone to love and that loves them back just as fiercely. I love all of their children as nieces and nephews, laughing at the shit they all get into.

I want that. A woman by my side and our children running around causing havoc at school. I want those days when I answer the phone and hear the teacher tell me my kid is suspended for protecting another child from a bully.

I’d take them out for ice cream and tell them they did good regardless of getting in trouble with the school. We should always protect those that can’t protect themselves no matter what consequences lay at the end of that road.

I know I’ll have that one day, I can feel it. I just wish I knew when.

“Hey, Mom! How was your flight home?”

“Uneventful. Have you all made it to Montana yet?”

“We’re here. We’re staying in Bozeman tonight and supposed to meet the landlord at the house tomorrow afternoon.” I whisper so that I don’t wake the kids as I move toward the door leading outside.

Stepping out into the cool night air, I make sure the door doesn’t shut all the way behind me. I take a deep breath as I look out across the parking lot.

It’s a busy city but still gives off the small town vibe in my opinion after living in Chicago for so long.

“Will the utilities already be on tomorrow when you and the kids arrive?”

“Yes ma’am. It’s all included in the rent and they assured me that it would be on. The moving truck should be there in a few days. The company associate I’ve been emailing assures me there’s already some furniture there but if there was anything that I didn’t want to keep, to let the landlord know and they’d have it removed.”

“I still can’t believe that you decided to move that far away.” Mom huffs on the other end of the line.

“I’m sorry, Mom. If it’s any consolation, it’s beautiful out here. I can’t wait to see the house. Well, it’s a cabin actually. The pictures and videos they sent to me made it look amazing. There’s a huge yard for the kids to play in and a garden area. You know I’ve always wanted a garden.” I sigh.

“Yes, you always wanted to dig in the dirt even as a little girl. Always begging me for a new plant every time we passed by a garden center.” Mom laughs.
