Théoden winked at me. “Josef.”
I looked at Dante and he gave me a quick smile. He was shirtless, but wearing the same pair of jeans he had on before we decided to fuck. He’d wiped the cum away, but I could smell the scent of our sex still on him and I found it intoxicating.
“I think Noel is close to catching those rebels, Sire,” Dante said.
Théoden raised his eyebrow. “Oh, and why do you say that?”
“Well, for one thing, he’s your son. Failure isn’t an option.”
Théoden’s lips turned up in a slight smile. “True.”
Dante smiled, then continued. “But he knows some tricks, like I do. That was once my world, underground connections from human and supe alliances, Sire.”
Théoden frowned. “Who were your supe alliances?”
Dante sighed. “Some wolves in Deacon’s pack who’d rather not be wolves and didn’t mind seeing their Alpha take some hits when I destroyed his businesses. Also, I’m sure there are some vampires in your territory who are sympathetic to humans. Noel knows to look into that, even in other districts.”
I watched Dante’s face change from proud to concerned as Théoden’s glare hardened. And I was actually on Théoden’s side in this regard.
“And do you know of any in New Haven?” Théoden asked.
“Are there any here that I should be made aware of?” I asked. If I had traitors in my territory, I wanted them eliminated.
Dante looked at me and shook his head. “No, none here that I know of, Josef.” He turned to Théoden. “Not personally, no. But when I was in Deacon’s territory, I knew of a wolf who worked with vampires to help us get resources and find safe havens.”
“Why am I just now hearing about this, Dante?” Théoden’s stare was full of warning for Dante to tread carefully.
Dante swallowed. “I thought you gathered that information from me when you could read my mind, Sire. Also, I just didn’t think about it. The wolf is in Deacon’s territory. Victor, he’s the one who helped me out.”
“Ah yes, I am aware of him and so is Deacon,” Théoden said.
“What do you know about him, Sire?” Dante asked.
“Well, Victor betrayed you to Deacon, gave his wolves your whereabouts and that’s how he found you. He’s probably still in his pack,” Théoden said.
“Son of a bitch,” Dante growled, his snarl both dangerous and sexy to me.
Théoden chuckled. “It’s how he found you so fast, did you ever suspect him?”
Dante rolled his eyes, then sighed. “I did, but it was too late and I never knew for sure. It’s not like Deacon admitted that it was Victor who told him how to find us. I just thought our luck had finally run out, Father.”
“Well, you weren’t wrong there,” I said. “But I am glad that you survived.”
“You’re welcome,” Théoden quipped.
I didn’t bother to feed into his antagonizing ways and kept my comment and eye roll to myself.
“Anyway, Father, I am an open book to you. You can read my mind anytime. I’ll never keep anything from you again,” Dante said.
Théoden smirked. “Actually, no, you’re not. At least, not anymore. Your wolf half has overpowered my ability to read your mind.”
“Since Kendrick, Father?”
“Yes,” Théoden said.
“Really? Why didn’t you tell me before, Father?” Dante asked.
Théoden shrugged. “Just discovered that I couldn’t read your mind two weeks ago. I don’t go around reading my children’s mindsallof the time,” he stated. “It takes a lot of concentration and I only do so if I feel like I need to.”
