The line is silent while I wait for her reply.

“Probably.”

“Can I stop by to see them tonight?”

“Why?”

Why?! Because this whole misunderstanding seems to stem from those messages!

“Because I just left the social media office and found that you were blocked on all of my social media accounts—that’s something I never did.”

“I can’t tonight.”

She still won’t let me near him.

“Well, can I swing by during your lunch?”

She sighs and it feels like forever until she speaks.

“I guess so. But you’re going to have to get here soon, I can only give you fifteen minutes. My afternoon is busy.”

My truck is already in view, I jog to it, throwing my bag in the back seat.

“I’m on my way.”

“Meet me at the front entrance.”

I get lucky with parking and pull right up to the sidewalk. My eyes found her the second I pulled onto the street. She looks hot as fuck. The houndstooth skirt she’s wearing clings to her hips, and the taut black tee stretched over her tits is a personal punishment.

It’s unusually warm out for April and I’ve never been more thankful. I want to dig my fingers into those wide hips and never let go. She is focused on her phone, but when she looks up and sees me, her chest rises on a sharp inhale and then she tucks a strand of hair behind her ear.Hard not to smile at that.

I hop out of my truck and round the front to get to her. “You look very nice today.”

Her eyes are the only place I let my gaze wander even though they are dying to check out the rest of her.

“Thank you,” she chimes. “I need to grab some food for Rob. Mind if we walk?”

“What time do you have to be back?”

“His meeting gets done at one.”

“I thought you could only give me fifteen minutes? Sounds like you don’t need to be back for another forty-five?”

“I need half an hour to go through his emails that came through this morning,” she explains.

“Let me take you to lunch.Please.You and I both know if you bat your eyes at him twice, he’ll forget his own name much less what his inbox looks like.”

A hint of a smile pulls at the corners of her lips. “I can’t blame him,” I add, hoping to coax out the rest of her grin. A blush deepens her cheeks and she bites her bottom lip. I lick mine in response. Fuck, I want to kiss her. I have always regretted not kissing her that first night.

I grab her hand and start walking.

“Come on, let’s get you fed.”

“I’ll let you buy me a coffee. That’s it.” She gently retrieves her hand, causing disappointment to pool in my stomach. I slow my pace to follow her lead across the street to a café on the corner.

I’ll take what I can get. For now.

We enter the café and find a place in line. It smells like fresh bread and oregano. I’m always hungry, especially around her. “What’s good here?”
