He holds out his hand and I shake it, but to my surprise, he lifts my hand and presses a gentle kiss to my wrist. Once again, I shiver at his touch. I’m confused and kind of uncomfortable, but also a fair bit turned on right now.

Which tells me we need to get the hell out of here.

“If you want information on my kind, the stacks in the forbidden archives beneath the city library have everything ever written about vampires. All the myths, legends, and truths you could ever want are all in one collection.”

I nod at him, storing the information away for later. Right now, I want nothing more than to get out of this office and get some fresh air.

Together, Roscoe and I head out of the office and through the heaving club. I’m not in the mood to have my eyes assaulted by the swinging dicks and tits everywhere, so I keep my focus forward.

“What the hell was that?” Roscoe grouches in my ear, tugging on my arm.

I glare at him over my shoulder. “Nope. No. You don’t get to be mad at me. I’m the one that’s pissed at you right now.”

His eyes widen. “What? Why are you mad at me?”

Ducking through the writhing bodies, an uncomfortable sheen of sweat on my skin, I can’t stop myself from rolling my eyes at him.

“A few things, really. You didn’t give me any details about what we were facing in there. Plus, you charging in like a bull on steroids was surprisingly less than helpful.” We skirt the edges of the club while I yell over my shoulder to berate him.

Finally, we reach the exit, where a murderous Zeph is arguing with the bouncer. He looks about two seconds away from laying the guy out so I grab his arm and tug him away, ignoring the scowl I receive in return.

“Dude, move on. We’re done here.”

“What happened in there?” he barks at me and I just roll my eyes and begin to trudge back toward The Spire.

“Give me a minute to adjust. My ears are ringing like crazy and I’m going to be getting some explicit flashbacks for the next couple of days at least,” I grumble. I’m not lying either. My head feels like it’s buzzing and my ears are ringing like I’ve spent the evening at a metal concert.

All three of us are in terrible moods on the journey back, and I quickly fill Zeph in on what happened with Dante. By the time we get back to The Spire, I’m dragging my feet, exhausted. This has now been the longest day in existence and I’m sodonewith it I could scream.

I turn to the guys in the elevator before I drag my sorry carcass off to bed. “The forbidden archives of the library. That’s where Dante said we’ll find out more information about blood curses and vamps. Maybe the two of you can work out a way of getting us in there, if you’re not too busy pissing people off or making my job harder, that is.”

It’s a pissy way to end the day, but I can’t summon the energy to care. Luckily, the elevator dings and I step out first and stomp off to my shiny new apartment. The door closes behind me, not fast enough for me to miss Roscoe’s grumbled comment.

“Damn, she’s mad. I didn’t expect after we hired her that she’d yell at us, too.”

I scoff to myself, shaking my head. Something tells me this job is going to be more trouble than it’s worth.
