He removes any touch from me, and I turn slowly, my brows furrowed. His eyes are red with lust as he speaks.
“The only reason I didn’t come is because I was too busy palming my cock, so sure that those moans of yours were only in my imagination.”
FORTY-TWO
KAI
Her mouth parts in the most sensual way, the air leaving her lungs as she whispers the dirtiest things in my ear while my eyes roam with no shame over the beautiful lingerie she has on. It begs me to rip it to pieces, leaving nothing behind but her teasing body.
Esmeray has long curls on her back and a black bow matching the costume hugging her waist, and I can’t ignore the little purple details she added.
Now I understand why she shooed Purple out of our bedroom and why it took her so long to come back to our room—she was preparing for me.
She turns to face me, her eyes glistening as she watches me so intensely that holding eye contact alone makes me want to forget about my plans of taking it easily.
“What am I to you, and what do you feel for me?" she asks, pure confidence radiating through her.
I stretch my hand and trace it on her silky skin as I inhale her blueberry scent. “You’re my wife, the only woman in my life, and what I feel for you is the same as any husband would feel for his wife.”
Esmeray frowns, not happy with my reply. “And that is?”
My eyes squint at the shift in her body language—she no longer looks like she wants to persuade me to give her what she wants. She looks like she’s shielding herself from me.
“What is it that you want to hear, Ray?" I get a little closer on the edge of the bed and drag her to me, my chin reaching the place between her breasts. She breathes heavily under my gaze but doesn’t back down.
“What I want to hear is what feelings you have for me, no matter the truth,” she tells me, tracing her tongue under her upper lip.
“You once asked me why I call you Ray," I say and continue when she nods. “Do you know why? It’s because since you busted into my life like goddamn dynamite, you’ve been a ray of sunshine."
My hands wander more on her body, caressing her skin in slow moves while I watch her process what I just said. Her cheeks turn red, and she dips her chin into her chest, swallowing the dryness in her throat.
She nods, biting her lip. “Okay.”
“Okay?” I ask, surprised by her reaction. I thought she would be happier to hear this, but it’s definitely not what she expected me to say.
Her shoulders slump, and she steps away from my arms, walking to the door and opening it for Purple, who bursts in, barking happily. She switches the lights off and sneaks under the blankets with her back to me. I’m still on the edge of the bed, not understanding what I did wrong. Two minutes ago she was demanding me to fuck her—her words, not mine—and now her appetite died as quickly as the summer rain.
Purple jumps in bed and licks her face. She pats his head but then puts him on the floor with a sigh. “Not now, buddy.”
He barks at her, almost fighting her about his spot on the bed, but he doesn’t insist and goes to the door, circling until he finds a comfortable position to sit in.
“Esmeray," I murmur, touching her shoulder.
She doesn’t try to push my hand away when she replies, “It’s fine, Kai.”
“No, it’s not.” I switch the light on from the lamp on my nightstand, brightening the room a bit, and occupy my place in bed next to her, facing the wall in front of me. “What’s going on? Is it because I’m older? Because I can assure you there are couples with larger age differences than eight years, and plus, we’re married.”
Esmeray’s silent for a second, sniffling under the blankets and curling into a ball. Is she crying? What the hell did I do to upset her this badly? Usually, when my sister cries, I take her out for an ice cream and give her a few dollars, and she turns into the happiest girl ever, but I have a feeling doing the same with my wife won't work.
So what do I do?
Finding out why she’s upset would be a great start. Only if she’d tell me.
“Is it something I did?” I ask, raising my brows at no one.
She shakes her head. “No. It’s the opposite.”
What does that mean? Is it something I didn’t do?
