So, because I spent Christmas with Reid, Laura and Jamie insisted I do New Year’s Eve with them atIgloo, a trendy rooftop bar on sixth Avenue. To be honest, I would rather spend the evening with Reid, but I figured it would be good to take a break from him for a couple of reasons.

First of all, my friends were right, I need to carve some time out for them.

Second of all, I think it would be a little too much pressure to bring in the New Year with Reid; the specter of the New Year’s kiss would be hanging over our heads all night.

It’s best to avoid all that.

AtIgloo, the atmosphere is lively and the drinks are flowing. We are having a decent time, but suddenly, not long into the night, I start to feel a wave of sickness wash over me.

“No! You can’t leave,” Jamie says after I summon the courage to tell my friends what’s going on.

“I’m sorry you guys, but I’m really not feeling well.”

“What? You feel like throwing up? Because that’s to be expected when you drink.” Laura rolls her eyes.

“It’s not from alcohol. I’ve only had a couple of shots and barely have a buzz going. It’s probably something I ate.”

Jamie steps up to me and puts the back of her hand on my forehead. “Actually, you are burning up.”

“See? I wouldn’t ditch you guys.”

“Yes you would,” Laura laughs.

“No, I wouldn’t. If I didn’t want to be here, I just wouldn’t have come in the first place.”

“Alright. Wait, Jamie and I will get our coats and take you home.”

“No, no, no,” I wave my hands. “I’m not going to ruin your New Year’s Eve. You guys stay. I’ll just get an Uber back home.” They both start to insist, but I stop them. “Guys, I already feel horrible for leaving early. If I ruin your night as well, it’ll make me feel even worse. So please, stay.”

They look at each other and then nod.

“Okay,” Jamie says.

“Feel better. And text us when you make it home!” Laura chimes in.

I call an Uber. They escort me downstairs and make sure I make it into the car safely before they return to the party upstairs.

As the Uber begins to wind through the New Year’s Eve traffic, I roll my window down slightly to let the cool night air hit my face.

I wonder what Reid and Ethan are up to. I glance at the time on my phone. Actually, Ethan has probably been in bed for hours. Reid insisted he was happy to finally have a quiet night in tonight, so I’m sure he’s just unwinding.

How does Reid unwind when he’s alone?

I realize that I’m actually not sure.

Probably some tv.

Or, he’s up in his office, staring at the papers on his desk and stressing about losing his company.

I chuckle to myself and roll my eyes.

Either way, hopefully he’ll be happy to see me home early.

We pullup to the house, and the Uber stops out front. As I get out of the car, my legs shake a little and a mild dizzy spell rushes over me.

What is going on with me?

I hope what I’m coming down with isn’t going to be serious.
