“You know what I mean.” She rolled her eyes at him.
He boxed her in and whispered close to her ear. “I’m not worried about what they think. I only care about what you want. What do you want, koukla?” He kissed around her ear and down the side of her neck, where he nipped the base of her collarbone. She giggled.
His hands moved to her waist, and he placed his lips on hers, drawing her into a kiss.
“You don’t know what you do to me, Noelle,” he whispered.
He feels it too. The pull. How natural everything is between us. I know he does.
There was a knock at the door. Neither one of them acknowledged the interruption. Demetri continued kissing Noelle and his hands moved around her body, touching her, making her feel so good. Then another knock came on the door. “Signomi, Demetri.” She understood someone said “excuse me” through the door, and she pulled back from Demetri.
He held her in place and nuzzled below her ear.
“What is it?” Demetri asked in Greek. Someone replied, and Noelle couldn't decipher what he said.
Demetri whispered to her. “I am sorry. I have to get this.” He opened the door and the two men spoke so fast, Noelle couldn’t catch a word.
Demetri introduced Noelle to Georgos and then had to excuse himself. There was an issue with a customer Demetri had to handle.
Disappointed and frustrated, Noelle excused herself to the restroom.
Chapter 30
DREEEEEEAM, DREAM, DREAM, DREAM ~Demetri~
“Demetri, I know this isn’t our business, but why did you give Noelle the anklet?” Claire said as Demetri walked up to her, Caroline, and Yannis. Noelle hadn’t yet returned from the bathroom.
“Yeah, what were you thinking?” Caroline smacked his shoulder.
“Did she not like it?” Demetri rubbed the back of his head.
“She did, but do you think it was a good idea? I mean… does it…” Claire trailed off.
“Of course she liked it. But she’s clearly falling in love with you. If you don’t feel the same way, then you’re leading her on and will break her heart.” Caroline didn’t bother to mince words, as usual.
That can’t happen.“I care about Noelle. But I told her I do not do love. And you all are leaving soon. What am I supposed to do?”Fuck.
“For starters, stop giving her hope for something more serious.” Caroline rolled her eyes and threw her hands in the air.
“Surely, after all the time you’ve spent with her, knowing her past, you knew she was different. If you still intend to end this when we leave Greece, why would you give her something that would give her hope for more?” Claire was gentler but still to the point.
Caroline nudged Demetri’s arm, and they all turned to welcome Noelle.
“Hey guys… did I interrupt something? You all look so serious.” Noelle gave them a questioning look.
“Um…” Claire paused.
Everyone else stayed silent.
What have I done?I told myself to stay away, but I didn’t. Love? Is she in love? I cannot be in love. I will not be in love.He and Noelle had gotten too close, but he couldn’t allow it to continue.I have to let her go now. It will be easier than to risk losing her after years of being together. The plan was always to let things end when she left Greece. I will just have to do it sooner. If I keep seeing her, it will be harder for the both of us. I cannot give her what she wants. She deserves more. Noelle deserves everything.
“Just talking about your trip. How about we dance?” Demetri motioned to the dance floor.
The group enjoyed a few more dances before Demetri announced he was tired and ready to go home. He pulled Noelle aside. “Can we talk outside, alone?”
“I’ll be outside. Just come find me when the song ends, ok?” Noelle told her friends. She had a sorrowful look in her eyes.
“I have had a wonderful time with you, koukla. But I am afraid I have to be gone for the next few days for work. Maybe we can see each other one last time before you leave Greece, but I do not know for sure if I will be back in time.”
