I imagined waking up next to Cord every morning for the rest of my life and couldn’t stop smiling. If nature was kind to us, we’d have a kid or a litter soon to start our own family. I imagined us staying up late discussing magic after the kids went to bed. It’s more than I ever thought was possible.

“I’m leaving water outside the door. It might not stay the coldest, but that way it’s easy to grab,”Duke told me over the family link.“If you need more or something to eat let me know.”

“Thanks for everything, cousin.”

“It’s what family does. I’m going to stop by Starry’s and get my stuff. Do you want me to grab yours too? Maybe ask Starry to put something together for Cord?”

“If you wouldn’t mind,”I nodded even though he couldn’t see me through the door.

“Not a problem. I’m also going to stop over and ask Liam about our dead vampire. Anything you think I should ask?”

“Dad said we should ask if the spirit had an accent,”I said, yawning now that Cord was fully out cold and all the tension gone from him.

“You got it. I’ll let you know what I find out,”he said.

Chapter Thirty

Cord

My hair was plastered to my forehead with sweat, and it slipped and slid over Blithe’s chest as I tried to nuzzle him. He cooed something about going back to sleep and I squinted looking for the clock. There wasn’t one in the bedroom. My cat was awake enough to tell me that it was dark out – really dark.

“True night,”my inner beast murmured into my thoughts.

In cat speak that meant the moon was out.

“We should hunt,”he yawned.

My stomach growled before I had a chance to say anything.

“Huh?” Blithe blinked at the sound of my hunger.

“I think I’m hungry, Alpha,” I yawned. “But I don’t want to get up yet.”

“What time is it?” he blinked.

“True night.”

He cocked his head to the side, his eyes still squinty with sleep.

“Duke’s out cold,” he whispered. “Let’s go out to the kitchen or you could stay here and I’ll go out to the kitchen. Shit. I didn’t ask. Are you okay? Too hot? Should I run you a cold bath?”

“Shhhhh……” I said and pressed my finger against his lips. “I’m hot, but I’m okay. I’ll just throw on your shirt and we can go to the kitchen.”

“Duke brought my stuff. Maybe some of yours if Starry let him,” Blithe yawned.

Still half-asleep we both crawled out of bed. I put on Blithe’s discarded shirt and he wiggled into his pants sans his underwear before we headed out to the kitchen.

“Leftovers in the fridge,” Blithe read aloud from a sticky note on the kitchen table.

“At least that one wasn’t from a spirit,” I yawned and sat down at the table. “You hunt. I’ll sit.”

Blithe cupped my chin and stole a kiss before making his way to the fridge. I fingered the edge of the sticky note.

“Two. Ha. They stuck together. I hate when the evil little bastards do that,” I yawned, pulling the top one off. “Hey. Another message.”

“What’s that, mate?” Blithe asked, glancing over his shoulder at me.

“There’s another message under the first one,” I yawned again.
