Blithe twisted it open instead and I almost fell backward with it, but he held me to him. He walked me backward into the room. “All clear!” He called back to Duke as he kicked the door shut behind him.

I fumbled for the light switch but didn’t have time to flick it before Blithe lifted me off my feet. A ‘mrrph’ sound of surprise escaped me.

“So kitty,” Blithe murmured against my neck.

I opened my mouth to say I was a cat but Blithe laid me on the bed and licked up and down my throat, his lips trailing around his tongue. He marked me as his and set off every tingly ‘I’m being groomed’ button my inner beast had. Purrs vibrated my throat as I ran my hands up and down the flexing muscles of Blithe’s back. Everything about him was so strong – so strong and magical.

I flushed, scorched, as the heat settled into my cells. I squirmed under Blithe as slick arousal pooled outside my omegahole.

“I know, I know,” Blithe cooed against my throat.

Was he picking up my scent or my thoughts over the group link?

“Won’t matter pretty soon,”my cat purred into my thoughts as he rubbed the length of his fluffy body along my ribs.

He was right. I just prayed to Juda and Frost and all their little babies that I wasn’t thinking loud enough for everyone to pick up my thoughts over the group link. I blushed hotter as Blithe pushed himself upright. He was straddled over my crotch, my hard dick pressing up against his body as he tugged his shirt over his head and then stole mine with his vampyric speed.

He glanced around our new bedroom and not finding the hamper right away he tossed our shirts on top of the chest of drawers that sat on the far side of the room.

“All our stuff is at the other house,” I whispered, running my hands through his hair and pulling him back down for another kiss.

“We’ll get your romping toys later, mate. I think we can make do with what we have for now,” he growled before claiming my lips in a hard kiss.

His tongue spun circles around mine, licking away the thoughts before they ever fully formed in my brain. I gave them to him – gave into his weight pressing against me and the fire burning hotter and hotter everywhere he touched me.

“Pants too?” he asked when I started squirming again. “Actually, wait. Claiming vows.”

“Yes, most people take their pants off for those, Alpha,” I laughed.

“Do you have anything special you want to do for them? I know every group has their own thing and ---”

I kissed him again because I couldn’t help myself. We could say all the pretty words Blithe wanted to. He could take my blood, if that’s what vampires did during the claiming vows. He could have whatever he wanted, because he kept his promise to me. I was safe. Sure, my past would haunt me again, but the house was warded and our future kittens would be safe.

“So, kissing it is,” Blithe breathed against my lips when the kiss ended.

“Actions speak louder than words. I’ll whisper pretty words and we can make binding magical contracts, but I know what I need to. I trust the true-mate magic and I trust you. When everyone chose their mates in the Other World, I chose correctly. I chose the best, Blithe. You roll into the village and don’t even question warding our home against a dead woman. You don’t question if she’d even be a danger to our kittens.”

“Instincts and intuition count for a lot, mate,” he said and smoothed my hair away from my face. “And not even in that way putting all the work on carriers by saying you guys have all the intuition and we Alphas got none of it. I have no doubt that if she were alive, she’d be a threat to our children. So, why would that be any different now that she’s dead? Ghost or spirit or resurrected mortal – she doesn’t get to come near our kids or you.” He kissed me again and I sank into the mattress, giving into his mouth.

“And you drew that boundary for us,” I whispered when we came back up for air again.

“No, mate. We drew that together. I’ve got your back, but I’ll never let you fool yourself into thinking you’re any less capable than you ever were,” he whispered.

“If it wasn’t so hot in the house I’d get all sappy about all this,” I grinned.

Blithe wiped beads of sweat from my forehead before sliding his hands down to cover my ears. I opened my mouth to askwhat he was doing, but he bellowed louder than any dragon I ever heard.

“DUKE? ARE YOU STILL HERE? COUSIN??! CAN YOU CRANK THE AC TO THE COLDEST IT GOES? THANK YOU!”

Despite Blithe’s big hands guarding my ears I still flinched.

“Sorry,” he whispered and kissed me again.

Duke didn’t shout back or answer, but a few seconds later the whoosh of cool air racing through the vents filled my head.

“THANK YOU!” Blithe called back, a bit quieter this time.

“You could use the family link,” I teased him, running my hands down his back to squeeze the firm round globes of his ass.
