I didn’t answer aloud. I turned a half step and pointed at the window on the far side of the room. Cord cocked his head to one side and considered the option for a long silent moment.
“No,” he shook his head. “I need to know what’s going on with my friends. Starry saved me once I got here. He hid me and ---” Cord’s mouth hung open in a wide O. “SHIT! STARRY!”
Cord struggled to twist the lock. Reaching around him, I undid it for him. He bolted from the room, nearly knocking Bobby over as he dashed down the hallway.
“What the hell?” Bobby looked at me.
“I’m not sure, cousin,” I said and squeezed past him to follow Cord into the living room where the others waited.
Chapter Fourteen
Cord
“Cord?” Starry was already on his feet by the time I made it to the living room.
“Starry!” I rushed into his arms and hugged him close.
“Are you alright?” he whispered.
“The spell, Starry. Our spell. I think---” I started, but Starry leaned back and clamped his hand over my mouth.
Some spells were never meant to be spoken of in public.
“Wait! Not here!” He said, his eyes lighting up with remembrance.
“Do I need to tell Liam to hurry up, Starry?” Bobby asked, walking into the living room to join the chaos.
“No, this is between Cord and me. I guess it’s between us and Blithe now too. Shit!” Starry swore and shook his head.
“Do you have what you need to undo this?” Xi asked, stepping closer to us and putting a hand on either of our shoulders.
Blithe swallowed a growl, but I shot him a look that I hoped would remind him that Starry and Xi were mates. Neither of them was interested in anything with me besides friendship and brotherhood. I was Blithe’s. He hadn’t claimed me yet, but I was already his. My magic reached out for him. In return Blithe’s magic brushed against my skin and Starry’s eyes burnt bright and hot like the draconic fire that lived within his belly.
“Yeah, definitely the spell,” Xi said. “Starry, we should move this to the witch room. Who should I keep up out and who should I let in, mate?”
“Me, Cord, Blithe,” Starry said and his eyes raked across the room. “Are you fireproof, Duke?”
“What?” Duke asked, taking a step toward Blithe.
“Are you dragon enough to be fireproof or do I need to wait on Liam?” Starry asked. “I’ll explain later. Just answer the question please.”
“I can handle the heat,” Duke said, crossing his arms.
“It wasn’t a challenge,” Starry sighed. “Come on then. Us and them two,” he added the last part for Xi.
“I’m going to be right outside the door,” Bobby said, as we walked past him again.
“Me too,” Xi said.
“Is this spell of yours putting everyone on edge?” Bobby asked.
“No, just me and Cord, but since we’re on the group link, it’s probably spreading pretty well,” Starry sighed.
“Well, witch, do your job then,” Bobby laughed.
“Do you really think this is the time to laugh, Robert?” Duke asked him.
“This is nothing compared to some of what we’ve seen here. Seems this is friendly magic gone wrong,” Bobby shrugged. “Starry and Cord will work it out.”
