“How are you?”
“Full. You?”
“What did you have for breakfast?”
“Toast and coffee.”
“Good girl.” His praise made me feel things in places I shouldn’t be feeling them.
“You?”
“I’ll probably have some cereal soon. I miss you.”
“I miss you too.”
“Have you talked to Sue about me coming over?”
“Yes. It cost me milk and sugar in my coffee.”
“I have a video interview at two, but the next stop after that, I’ll come over.”
“Sounds good.”
“I can’t wait to see you.”
“Same.” I reply.
Time moves slowly as I wait for him. We text a bit more about mundane stuff before he has to go get ready for his interview.
I wonder who he is doing the interview for. It’s been a few weeks since I’ve done an interview. I did a small press run for this tour, but they’ve been keeping the interviews low. They want me to be more stable and healthier before I do any real in-depth interviews.
Sue makes me a sandwich for lunch around two.
I sit at the table across from her and eat it. I take a few bites before looking up at her.
“Sue.” I say.
“The whole thing.” She doesn’t even look up.
“No. I mean, yeah, I know. I was just wondering, do you think we could have something other than sandwiches?” I ask, taking another bite.
“What did you have in mind?”
“Anything else.”
“I’ll make a trip to the store at the next venue. Ramen?”
“Cup of noodles, ramen, soup, anything else.” I shrug.
“Okay.”
It’s around three when I finally ask Sue to come watch me change. She is busy typing away at her computer.
“Just go get changed.” She waves me off to go on my merry way.
“Alone?”
“Can I trust you not to do something stupid?”
