No, she remembered the look on Nassau’s face when she met his eye. She hadn’t dreamed that. Pain streaked across her chest at just the thought. She had to get out of here.Cracking open the door, she could see straight into the kitchen. Ife, Nassau’s mom, was moving around, cooking and singing to herself softly.
Fuck.
Fuck.
Fuck.
How the hell did she end up at Nassau’s house?
She squeezed her eyes shut, rubbing her throbbing head. She barely remembered Keoni and Isaiah dragging her away, which meant Keoni had betrayed her. Bastard. Last time she told him anything. She backed away from the door, closing it softly before realizing she could hear water running from the other door. He must be in the shower.
Grabbing her keys and clutch, she moved to the window and peeked out the blinds. Her Jeep sat right in front of the house. Perfect. She unlocked the window, heaved it open, and before she could think twice about this, swung her legs over and hopped into the flower bed, narrowly avoiding a rose bush.
Not even closing the window, she made a mad dash to her Jeep and hightailed it out of there. She wasn’t paying attention to where she was driving until she realized she was completely lost. She’d never been to Tuisa. No one had, and after a few minutes, she realized she’d passed the same set of houses several times.
Her soft-top was off in her Jeep, the windows down, and she was starting to get looks from anyone who was outside, so she pulled off to the side of a road, grabbed her phone from her clutch, and plugged it into the charger. Slipping sunglasses from her glove compartment on, she leaned her head onto her steering wheel and covered her face with her arms.
This day was entirely too fucking sunny. Her head was pounding, and she was mortified. It was one thing to make Nassau hate her, but what was she thinking? Wallowing in her misery, she barely noticed the sound of other vehicles as they drove by until a big truck pulled up next to her and parked, facing the opposite way, the driver’s window next to hers. Ugh. She did not want to look up, but they weren’t leaving. Maybe if she just sat there, they’d get the hint.
“You alive?”
This fucker. She lifted her head to glare at Keoni. “Fuck you, fuck this giant ass pack, and fuck this fucking sun.”
He laughed, his arm hanging out his window nonchalantly. “I’m assuming you’re lost?”
“I’m assuming Nassau called you?”
“He promised to get you home once you woke up, so he had to let me know.”
“Y’all realize I’m twenty-two years old, and my mom and dad don’t even keep up with me?”
“You realize that we do whatever our future Luna tells us?”
“No fucking way did Ava tell you to follow me around, cock-blocking, and treating me like a child. Try again.”
“We do whatever we think will keep Ava from lighting us on fire and blaming us for your crazy.”
“Ava has known me since I was eleven years old. Nothing I do is new to her. My life is my life.” She grabbed her phone, holding it up. “And looky, my phone is charged now, so I can use my GPS to get out of here.”
“Yeah? Because you think my dad let people in here to map out our pack and put it on the internet? Turn right at the bush and straight into the Laguna Madre. That’s all you’re getting from your GPS.”
He was practically doubled over in laughter, and never in her life did she want to throat punch someone more than she did right now. Instead, she rummaged around in her glove box until she found what she was looking for.Her hand closed over the handle of the taser, and as the rumble of another truck pulled up behind her, she pointed it straight at Keoni, aiming for his bare bicep. He was too busy laughing and waving at the person behind her to notice until she spoke, then he looked over and froze.
“Congrats. You stomped on all my nerves today, so I’m gonna fry yours.”
Confusion flitted over his face as his smile slid away, and she fired. At this proximity, both probes hit his biceps, electricity flowed through his body, and he seized up, clenching for the full five seconds. She watched, maybe a little too gleefully, and by the time it finished, the gun was yanked from her hand.
“Have you lost your mind?”
Shit. Where did he come from? “Maybe a little. Probably from lack of orgasms. I blame you both.”
Keoni groaned, and Nassau yanked the probes from his arms and re-engaged the safety. Damn, he looked good. He wore a tight black t-shirt and low-slung jeans that hugged his delicious, thick ass. When he turned, she looked away, suddenly grateful for her oversized glasses. She was certain she looked like hell because she felt like shit.
“Don’t look at me like that. He was baiting me. Laughing at my expense. You didn’t have to snitch. He’s not my dad.”
“You jumped out his window and were wandering around the pack. You couldn’t get back without us anyway. We have controlled borders, remember?” Keoni glared at her, rubbing his arm. “You keep acting up for no damn reason.”
“First of all, I’ll keep acting up till the day I die, or until someone makes me act right, and I don’t see that happening. Secondly, there was no way I was facing Ife. She didn’t need to know I passed out in her son’s bed. I could never show my face to her again.”
