Page 14 of Arrow to my Heart

“You tried to save me?”

I scoff as I push him off of me, trying to hide the smile that creeps onto my lips.

“Ididsave you.”

We move carefully, exiting the room on our knees. The second the door closes as Havoc takes off, and my heart foolishly goes with him.

Dang fudgeburger, I let myself fall for his stupid charm again only for him to run away.

Arrow pulls me in close as commotion breaks out around us. Brittany stays by our side, making sure the two of us are safe.

???

I called Evie, despite Havoc’s protests when he got back. Thankfully, he was unharmed. The minute he caught the guy, he checked in with me and apologized for running. I’m not upset that he ran, I’m more offended he didn’t even think to bring me with him.

Would I have said no freaking way and insisted I stay with Arrow? Sure. But it would have been nice to have been asked. I swear these men sometimes forget who we are. Luckily, Evie and I already had a talk about that.

Now we’re getting Arrow settled into his new room. Havoc is bringing in bags from the car while Brittany and Ellie create a schedule with me. I made sure to color code everything, so there’s no miscommunication as well as create a shareable calendar that has been sent to Boris.

He let us bring whoever we wanted from the hospital and assured them that their jobs would still be waiting for them once Arrow recovered.

He really did think through every detail. Speaking of the devil’s twin, Boris walks in just as I get the last of Arrow’s room settled.

“Hey,” I say waving at him. He has said repeatedly that he’s not a hugger and prefers three feet of distance from most people at all times. But I’m not most people.

I walk up to him and wrap my arms around him, the weight from the stress of the day finally lifts a little. I feel him hesitate before his arms wrap around me in a brief pat, and I pull back as soon as he does.

He’s warming up to me. I know it.

“Havoc debriefed me on everything that happened today. Are the two of you okay?” He surveys us both carefully, looking from me to Arrow and back again.

“I’m good,” Arrow says, already appearing exhausted from all of the moving about today.

“I’m fine. I think it was all just a bit of a shock. But after that wore off, it all kind of made sense they would attack there. I’m glad Havoc caught the guy and we were able to get some information though. At least it helped with the talk of the round table and all. Did the driver that was hurt on our way here make a full recovery?”

Boris looks at me like I have three heads. “Laney, I am going to need you to slow down when you speak and ask questions one at a time.” I take a deep breath, attempting not to lash out at this man. One of the cars on the way to the estate was attacked. Thankfully, we were all okay, but the driver had to be taken to the hospital.

“I only asked one question,” I say slowly, trying not to roll my eyes at him. “Is the driver okay?”

“He is. He should be discharged tomorrow.”

I let out a breath. As much as it’s these guy’s jobs to protect us, I don’t like the idea of any of the good ones getting hurt.

Arrow drifts off to sleep as the two of us sit on the sofa in his room. The bedroom is quite large with a giant sofa set to the side. It looks strangely new, but I don’t ask. If I ask or talk too much, Boris will just leave.

I’m excited to be sleeping on this one instead of the one at the hospital. That leather is freaking cold.

“You should sleep in your own bed,” Boris says as if reading my thoughts.

“What if he needs me in the middle of the night?”

He keeps his eyes on Arrow but speaks to me.

“He is a grown man. I am sure he can wait until the morning for your assistance.”

“Sure he could, but he doesn’t have to. Besides, this couch is going to be loads better than the one at the hospital.”

“I would hope so. I spent a fortune on it.”
