“What is it?”
When I look at it, my blood freezes. It is the familiar blank cream-colored cardstock with just14Kwritten on it with gold letters. I flip it over to find an address in the same gold with atime that says2:00 p.m.No date. But I’m assuming it’s today. I look at the clock on my computer screen. It’s 12:45 p.m.
“Where did you get this?” I ask as Tao comes up behind me.
“It was in the company mailbox, though I don’t think it actually went through the postal service. There’s no stamp,” Lili says.
Shoot.
Right on time, the elevator dings, and Kai saunters down the steps. He must see the look on my face.
“What’s going on?” he asks.
I hand him the card.
His eyebrows shoot up before looking at Tao.
Tao whistles. “You’ve been summoned.”
“Shit.” I grind my teeth.
I’m not arrogant, but the thought of me beingsummonedby some stranger rubs me the wrong way.
“You can’t ignore it,” Kai says.
“If you don’t show up, it’s a sign of disrespect,” Tao adds.
“He just tried to kill my husband, and he wants respect? He’s lucky all I did was mess with his shipments,” I retort, closing my eyes and trying not to lose my cool. When no one replies, I take a deep breath. “I understand,” I tell my men as I turn to Lil. “Let Bo know we’ll be leaving at 1:30.”
Chapter Fifteen
Anya
Pulling into the underground parking lot of the address with a few minutes to spare, Bo is briefing me on how to approach the meeting as I see a familiar row of SUVs pull in. Bo stops speaking as he also notices, and I jump out of the vehicle.
“Ma’am!” Tao yells from the driver’s seat before I shut the door.
Kai is out the door at the same time and follows me as I speed to the vehicle. The middle SUV barely stops when my husband rushes out.
“What the hell are you doing here? Are you okay?” Nico asks, grabbing my shoulders.
“I’m fine. We just got here. What areyoudoing here?” I ask, narrowing my eyes.
He better not have been tracking me.
He holds up the white cardstock. “I’m assuming you got this, too.”
I nod as he gestures for me to get into his vehicle.
I climb in without argument and find Bash seated. Dante is working from the passenger side on his laptop. Another man is in the driver’s seat.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were coming here?” Nico asks.
“Why didn’tyou?” I sass back, crossing my arms.
“Mom, Dad, I hate when you fight,” Dante whines, not taking his eyes off the screen.
I roll mine so hard I swear they almost get stuck.
