Chapter 4

Emily

The phone rings incessantly in my ear, and I’m starting to come irritated. Either Rock isbusywith one of his more mature conquests, or he’s purposely ignoring my name flashing on his phone.

I disconnect the call once I’ve had enough of the horrendous beeping sound and chuck it onto my bed. I clear my throat as I stand up and walk over to my bedroom window.

Fuck.

I see the top of Daddy’s perfectly coifed hair as he makes his way out of his Rolls Royce and gives Aunt Jana a hug when she walks out to greet him.

I reach up and smooth out my hair before I adjust the wrap around my waist, then head out of my room.

Daddy likes to be greeted by all of us when he gets home, but today is going to be different, because he’s expecting me to have already taken care of Rock.

Regardless of Aunt Jana saying that I had until tonight.

“Sweetheart!” Daddy greets me with a huge smile as I jog down the luxurious spiral staircase made of Brazilian mahogany.

This thing is a fucking hazard because the steps can get slippery sometimes, but Daddy refuses to cover them with a rug of any kind because he says that devalues the work that went into them.

He’s so fucking materialistic.

“Hi!” I call out happily as I walk quickly toward him, then let him engulf me in his large arms.

Daddy istotallydrop-dead gorgeous, but unlike Rock, he doesn’t let it go to his head.

He’s about five-foot-ten inches tall, has salt and pepper colored hair, and just enough five o’clock shadow that it always itches my face when he gives me a peck on the cheek.

“Where’s Josephine?” Daddy asks Aunt Jana when he pulls away from me.

“Out shopping. She wanted to get the perfect fixings for your welcome home dinner tonight.”

He nods, but I can see the disappointment all over his face.

“Well, Emily. Did you take care of the little task I left for you?” he asks me cheerfully.

And it’s about to get worse.

“He didn’t answer the phone when I called,” I mumble nervously. Daddy lets out a loud sigh as his hands go up in the air and then slap against his thighs.

“But I’m going to keep calling until he does. I’ll go over to his house if I have to,” I insist desperately.

Daddy gives me a critical look before he shakes his head and ruffles my hair, his fingers becoming briefly entangled in my loose bun. “You’re a good girl, Emily. I know you’ll get it done.”

Daddy shakes his head as he walks away from me and Aunt Jana, tugging at his tie and pulling it off before he disappears into the kitchen.

“I’ll keep him busy,” she says to me quietly. I look at her dejectedly, but she smiles kindly and squeezes my arm. “You just get that boy to agree.”

Chapter 5

Davina

I’m sitting at the kitchen table in a towel, eating a hefty ham and cheese sandwich.

I lick the mayo and mustard off the tips of my fingers when I hear a knock at the door. It’s been so long since I’ve had one of those, that the sound confused me at first.

“It’s me, honey!”
