Life was short. She knew. She was going to take advantage of the fact she lived with that motto since the day she was born.

OH SHIT
“You’re here early,” Hudson said on Tuesday morning. “Normally you’re coming in right when it’s time to start unless you’re called in.”
Carson always did, but he stayed later. Hudson was the earlier riser of them and stayed just as long if not longer.
“I’ve been waiting for you.”
Hudson laughed. “You’re sitting in the parking lot this early waiting for me. Why? Everything okay?”
“You would have known if something was wrong.”
“If it was bad, of course I would have. Now that we don’t live together we don’t see each other as much.”
“We see each other at work all the time,” he said. Even when they didn’t work the same shifts, either he made his way down to see Hudson or vice versa before they left. As if it was a habit they couldn’t break and never would.
If they were both at the hospital at the same time, they made sure they saw each other. Most times it was only to talk about work or just say hi. It’s not like they had a lot of time in their jobs to sit around and gab.
“Not like when we lived together. I hope you know you can call or come see me at any point if you need something.”
Hudson had worried that Carson had felt he had to move out when Delaney came around. In the beginning he knew it was hard to do, but his brother was in love. He knew right away Delaney was the one for his twin.
Just like he was positive Laine was for him.
No one would understand this other than his twin.
“I know that,” he said. “Come sit in my car with me.”
“Oh boy,” Hudson said. “It’s that serious you don’t want anyone to see or hear us.”
“Not like you think,” he said. “You’re the only one that will understand.”
“I’m starting to get worried,” Hudson said.
“Stop,” he said. They got in his SUV. “I met someone.”
Hudson laughed. “That’s not serious.”
“How did you feel when you first met Delaney?”
“Oh shit,” Hudson said.
“Yeah,” he said. “It’s Laine Connors from a little over a week ago.”
“I know who she is,” Hudson said. “What have I missed?”
Carson filled his brother in on what had happened in the past ten days. “I even told Mom. I brought her the vase.”
“Holy cow,” Hudson said. “What was Mom’s response?”
“She brought up the island lore,” he said.
Hudson laughed. “Did you argue with her about it?”
“No,” he said.
