I file this information away for later.

“Hi, I’m Audrina,” I greet him as he kisses me on the cheek with a louder-than-necessary smacking noise.

“I’m Andamos. Let’s go meet in my office.”

Andamos links arms with me to lead me through the house. I’m hesitant at first just because I have no idea what will happen, but there is something relaxing about his dad.

I have to remind myself that Andamos isn’t like the other fathers out there. He is the head of the mafia family.

The story is told to Andamos, and then two of his security guards are also in the room. Stavros has me in the middle of himself and Andreas. The only thing I can think of is that he is getting tired of his father being so grabby over me.

The heaviness of today’s events begins to wear on me; all I can think about is going to sleep. My face is hurting, and so is my body from my injuries.

“My sister needs to get home soon. Is this meeting almost finished?”

I’m surprised at the forwardness of Andreas at this moment. I can only assume he’s also feeling overwhelmed with everything that is going on. I feel like a bad sister since I haven’t been around that much to be there for him over the past month.

Andamos drops the next bomb in my world.

“Do you remember Detective Milgram?”

We all nod.

“She hasn’t forgotten about you. We have received word that she knows it was Andreas and Stavros who have killed the street boys at the warehouse.”

“Fuck!” My brother and Stavros both yell into the otherwise quiet office.

Andamos waits for a second before adding more. “She’s already spoken to the court system about Stav and his vigilante shit he pulled today without permission.”

“That’s my woman. What would you have wanted me to do?” Stavros exclaims.

“Are you prepared to fix it? Because the way I see it, you only have one witness left.”

“No!” Andreas all but shouts. “No. My sister has been dragged through all this lately and doesn’t need to be involved anymore.”

“What is he talking about?” I whisper over to him.

I’m missing when we were younger and had our own made-up language. It would drive our parents nuts, but it made it easy to communicate with each other. We spent days coming up with this language.

“Baby,” Stavros starts, “since you are the only witness left, my dad is saying we need to get married. If we’re married, you can’t be called to testify in the criminal case if it happens.”

“Are you saying you want to marry me?” My head hurts from everything and this is just another layer of shit on top of everything else that has gone on today.

“I’m saying this will probably be our only option.”

“We haven’t even been out on a date!” I sputter out.

Now I’m positive everyone has gone off the deep end. There are no possible other options here.

“Thank you, Dad, for meeting us. I will call you later on a private line,” Stav tells his father and helps me out of my seat.

“Where are we going?”

My mind is so fuzzy with everything, and I can’t help but struggle to keep up with what is being talked about.
