“Is he dangerous?” I question.

“He’s stupid,” is the reply.

“Hey, Andreas,” a voice calls out from behind us.

I see Audrina wearing tight pants and a tight tee shirt with a taller woman beside her. Audrina’s long hair is swept to the side and looks beautiful. Her eyes dilate slightly when she looks at me, and the recognition hits.

“I’m sorry to interrupt,” she replies and backs up.

“You’re okay,” Andreas calls out after her.

Audrina turns back to look at us and then at her friend, standing awkwardly to the side. “This is Britney,” she states, pointing at the petite blonde.

Usually, the petite blonde would be my type and keep my interest, but Audrina is the one who has me interested.

“What are you ladies drinking?” Andreas asks with a wink at the other woman.

They inform him of what they are drinking, and he orders it. After the drinks are made and put in front of them, Britney saddles herself off to me and leans in to talk.

“So, you’re a high-powered attorney as well?”

I nod and look past her to the rest of the bar. I’m not interested in flirting with her and have no interest in talking to her. What the hell happened to me? I would have already bought her a few drinks if this had been a couple of weeks ago, and we would have been at least at second base.

“Yeah, I work with Andreas,” I mutter and look off to see a man walking towards Audrina with daggers in his eyes.

“You stupid bitch!”

Audrina jumps on the barstool, and her eyes widen to look at the man before her. “Derek,” she says steadily.

I jump out of my seat and put myself in between them. “This is not the time or the place for this. We’ll see you in mediation,” I inform him and point at the door.

“So, this is what you do now? You’re so easy that you’re fucking your divorce attorney?” Derek shoots off at the mouth. =]

Andreas shoots his eyes at me and then his sister to see if this statement has any truth before pushing him out of the way. “Get out of here. This is harassment.”

“I should have known you would be such a slut. I’m glad I left you when I did. Whore,” Derek shouts and walks out of the bar.

Audrina has tears running down her face and she looks as if she’s about to start sobbing fully. I place my hand on her back and lead her through the bar to the bathroom. Once we’re there, I lock the door behind us.

“Don’t let him get to you,” I tell her.

She shakes her head. “He always accused me of sleeping with people, and it was him all along that was sleeping with anyone that wears a skirt. I should have known…”

I momentarily let her catch her breath and then place my hands on her shoulders. “This is where you need to woman up.This will get nasty quickly, and you need to understand what this could mean.”

“I’m sorry,” she whispers.

I get closer to her and smell the sweet smell of her essence. The woman smells like vanilla and something else that I can’t seem to put my finger on. My face is a breath from touching hers when the door rattles behind us.

I take a giant step back to open the door and break the spell between us.

Chapter Seven

Audrina

Inever would have imagined seeing Derek at the bar tonight. I almost didn’t even go out tonight when Britney called me and told me it was time to stop wallowing in my self-pity and get out of the house.

I get out of the house. I do things. I might not do as much as she does, but I do things.
