Stavros
I’m not one to take my work home with me because I’m trying to have a life, but I take Audrina’s case home.
I’m seated in front of my fireplace with a glass of twenty-five-year-old scotch next to my leather chair. This poor girl got the short end of the stick, and she was about to get fucked if I didn’t get the case from her brother.
I look over at my phone and see that it is after midnight. I get out of my seat and place the files back in my work bag on the kitchen table. My stomach grumbles for a minute, and I’m contemplating to get a midnight snack. It has been a long day.
My fridge is always fully stocked with stuff to eat and drink. I can’t take any of the credit since my housekeeper does the shopping for me weekly. I no longer bother telling Shelly what I want since she already knows what I want.
I grab the stuff to make a quick sandwich and then eat it over the sink. I’m not a complete heathen and I know how hard Shelly works to keep my house clean.
My apartment is on the sky floor of Business Capital in the city. I own the whole floor and have made it into my home over the past few years with Shelly's help. She does her part to puta woman’s touch in it because I didn’t want my house to be a bachelor’s pad.
Even though I’ve fucked my fair share of women, I never brought them here. I didn’t want the women coming over to my house and creating problems that didn’t need to happen here.
I hadn’t even thought twice about being with a woman for longer than a few nights until I met Audrina. Audrina’s sass and resilience are a major turn-on, but I must keep it professional.
You don’t get to the status I’m at by not being ruthless, and the truth is, I’ve fucked my share of co-workers, too. I’m not necessarily proud of it, but I don’t see the problem if we’re two consenting adults who are fucking around.
Shelly cleaned my clothes and indeed smelled the perfume that had rubbed off on the shirts. She’s polite enough not to say anything, but the judgment remains.
After my sandwich, I take my ass across the apartment to my room. My room is steel-grey with a California-King-sized bed in the middle. Another fireplace is off to the side, with a bench across the main windows of the room. I have a bathroom in the room I use mainly, and I’m looking forward to getting under the spray to release some of this tension.
Maybe I should just call one of my fuck buddies and meet them at the hotel to get some of this tension out of my body.
Fuck it, I’m just going to take a shower and go to bed.
For the next two days,I have reviewed every financial document I could find of Audrina’s and Derek’s. I have looked at every contract that has been signed and then every business deal that has been signed.
Luckily for Audrina, she’s entitled to half the business proceeds they incurred while married. Typically, this would be an open-and-shut case, but with the fraudulent activity, I’m going hard.
“Stav,” Andreas greets me from the door.
“What’s up?” I answer with my head still stuck in the pile of paperwork. “I’m working on your sister’s case.”
He clucks his tongue. “I figured as much. I wanted to be the one to represent her, but Derek is going to fuck her over.”
I nod. “He tried to with this pre-nuptial agreement.”
He walks into my office and looks at some of the files before me. I close up the paper files and shut my laptop before he can get a good look.
“You’re not going to get involved. You called me in, and now I’m here,” I inform him with my eyes directed at him.
“I know. This is my sister… My twin sister… It fucking sucks that she’s in the middle of this divorce shit, and there’s nothing I can do about it.” He plops down in the seat in front of my desk with exasperation.
“I get it. Don’t worry. I got this.”
“Want to hit up the bar tonight? I could use a drink and a greasy burger,” Andreas offers.
My stomach starts to growl at the mention of food, and I realize I worked through lunch. Getting out of my seat and grabbing my suit coat, I shrug my shoulders. “Sounds good. Let’s go now before the bar crowd comes.”
We each took our cars to the bar down the street and handed our keys to the valet drivers in front of the bar. The bar is one of the newer ones that many people go to. If I were younger, I might have gone more to pick up a lady or five of them. I’m too old to be bar-hopping and sleeping with a whole bunch of random chicks.
After we ordered our drinks and food, we sat at the bar. “What can you tell me about Derek?” I ask him with my eyebrow raised.
He takes a big chug of his beer before answering me. “The man started out all right but then started cheating on Audrina. He was constantly out all night, and when he did come home, he was nasty to my sister. She held on for a while, but after the girls started calling Derek more and more, she knew it was time to cut him off.”
Something inside me shifts; it is so random that I must take a second to understand it. Do I feel like I need to protect Audrina? I’m sure she can defend herself. I’m sure Andreas would handle all of the bull shit that could take place with this divorce settlement.
