Audrina’s been oddly quiet this whole time, and I hope she’s okay. I can’t turn away from looking at Johnny or I would be risking him getting one over on me.
“Marcos Gregorio,” he mutters as he clings to life still. “He bought the debt from Derek and we were supposed to pay it back.”
“Who killed Derek?” Audrina asks off to the side.
I didn’t want to get into it with her still in the room. However, she has a right to know about her ex-husband.
“That’s something I can’t answer,” he responds as he blacks out.
“Johnny?” I ask and then kick him to the side. He doesn’t respond. I shoot him once in the head for good measure.
Audrina screams from the chair.
Andreas follows suit and kills the man he is fighting with. These men have been trained to withstand interrogation. These men have been trained not to give any information, and the other was willing to die with that.
Johnny, on the other hand, knew he fucked up, and he knew if he didn’t talk, I was going to tell my father, who would have handled the situation a lot differently than I would have.
We are both untying Audrina as she falls into my arms. “What? Why? How?” She begins to ask several different questions in several different ways before stopping.
“Baby, you’re safe. You don’t have to worry anymore,” I reply.
I’m carrying her out of the warehouse with her head on my shoulder. Andreas is following behind us as he makes sure none of the men are going to miraculously come back to life.
After placing her in my car’s passenger seat, I dig for the keys for Audrina’s car. They were stashed in the purse which she had wrapped around her body in the warehouse. I throw them at Andreas to drive her car out of the warehouse parking lot.
“Where are we going?” Andreas asks.
“We’re going to my father’s compound.”
Chapter Thirty-Five
Detective Milgram
Ireceived a phone call regarding a mass shooting at one of the local street gang’s warehouses. Much more than that, I received notification that Andreas and Stavros were present.
I need this to prove I didn’t take a bribe for a case.
“Dispatch, Milgram is en route to the shooting site,” I reply to the dispatch.
I turn on the siren on my car to get to the warehouse in time before anyone left. It is a last-ditch effort to try and trap Stavros and Andreas. It is worth a shot.
I run through a couple of lights and then am at the warehouse. It is starting to get dark outside by the time I’m going inside. I have my bulletproof vest on and also my police jacket as I’m entering. I enter the building with one last check to ensure my gun is loaded.
“Fuck!” I yell when I notice that there are four dead bodies in the middle of the floor. “God damn it!”
“Hel-p!”
I immediately turn to where the voice has come from. “Hello?”
There’s someone trying to lift a limb to get my attention. I’m over there in seconds.
“Who did this to you?” I had hit the record button before asking. If this man dies before I can get him properly interviewed, I need to hear from his own mouth that it was Stavros and Andreas.
“Stavros Bilias shot me,” he breathes out before falling back under.
“I got you now, Bilias,” I muttered and left the warehouse to make the call for an ambulance.
