“Hey,” I greet.

“Son, you remember Greg, and this is Bilal. He’s on my security detail.”

I nod and sit with my back towards the house instead of the main yard. The backyard is expansive. It is truly an excellent yard, which my father has paid for immensely.

“Can I speak freely?” I question with an eyebrow raised.

Magda runs around trying to provide us with drinks and snacks, but I wave her off. This isn’t a social gathering for me but a business meeting. I do not think my father and I will have a good relationship.

“Of course,” Greg says, waving his hand in the air for me to go on.

“I appreciate you letting me know that Audrina’s name came across your desk, and you did what was needed to prevent it from going further. The situation regarding her husband has been dealt with.”

Everyone around the table looks at me with curiosity in their eyes.

“I wanted you to come over because there’s something more to discuss with you,” Greg starts. “Your business partner was also sniffing around trying to get a price on a hit for the husband.”

“Jesus fucking Christ,” I mutter. “I’m sorry if he’s creating waves.”

“I’m just letting you know that we need to see and talk to him about this. We can’t have this kind of publicity and information running around regarding our organization,” Dad says.

He would be more believable with a cigar hanging out of his mouth as he talks about what is going on. He would look like the typicalmobstereveryone thinks he would be.

“I have nothing to do with his public relations,” I inform. I can’t have Andreas’s bull shit falling back on me. I’m not his keeper.

He’s my friend and business partner, but I can’t have this falling on me.

“We need him to come to a meeting to discuss who he called and his intentions. Since he started this, we must ensure it doesn’t blow back on you or the family.”

I nod. “I will let him know. Audrina’s still in the hospital. I’m going to need to be getting back. Is there anything you need from me?”

This is the most I have spoken to my father in years. He smiles and then gives me a look that tells me he will want something more.

“There’s a couple of cops over here that have been sniffing around my businesses. I need you to see what you can find,” he tells me with finality.

“Dad, I have no problem helping out, but I’m not trying to get arrested.”

He throws his hands up. “Well, why did you come over here if you do not want to help the family?”

“Not with the whole ‘family’ talk. Dad, everything in my life has been dedicated to this family and ensuring you don’t fall behind bars. I’ll see what I can do,” I finally give in.

I’m out of my seat before he can throw anything more at me. There is no telling what else he will want from me.

Chapter Twenty-Two

Audrina

This time, my empty stomach woke me up, and not because people are talking around the room, hoping not to wake me up. My stomach hurts just a little, and I’m trying to get the strength to press the button next to me to request a snack.

“Hey, Audrina. Welcome back,” Andreas tells me and pats my hand.

I’m tempted to ask where Stavros is, but I don’t. I don’t know why I’m shy about whatever we’re involved in, but it feels taboo.

Stavros is my brother’s partner in the law firm, and they were once roommates in college. They are friends and all of that. It wasn’t until now that I realized Andreas’s friends weren’t all dumbasses who were trying to sleep with me back in high school and college.

“Hi,” I whisper.

“Stavros had to go run an errand. You sure about this?”
