He turns to face me, his eyes locking onto mine with an intensity that pins me in place. “Space is a luxury, Emma. And last night was careless. What if it wasn’t me who knocked on your door?”
I nod, the gravity of the situation sinking in. “I know, I didn’t think—”
“Exactly, you didn’t think.” His tone is sharp, cutting through my excuses. “You can’t afford to be careless.”
I swallow hard, my eyes trained on him. “I’m sorry.”
He steps closer to me, his hand gently tilting my chin up. “I need you to be more careful, Emma,” he says, his voice low and commanding. “You’re too precious to lose.”
His touch is light and soft, yet there’s a strength behind it that leaves me feeling small and vulnerable. And strangely safe.
“I will.”
“Promise me,” he says firmly, looking down at my lips.
“I promise,” I repeat.
His thumb brushes over my lip. Suddenly, he’s kissing me, his lips are hard and demanding. I gasp, caught off guard, but then his hand is at the back of my neck and I forget how to breathe. He’s possessive and commanding in a way that sets me on fire, and I know this is exactly what I want.
He deepens the kiss, his tongue pushing past my lips. I moan into his mouth as our bodies press together, the heat between us almost suffocating.
But even as he kisses me, I can’t help but think of Dmitri and Nikolai. The thought of being with all three of them at once makes my body pulse with desire.
When he pulls away, his gaze is dark with desire. “I need you to understand something,” he says sternly, his fingers still tracing lazy circles on my hip. “I won’t share you with anyone else. Not Dmitri. Not Nikolai. Only me.”
My heart speeds up at his words. The possessiveness in his tone sends a thrill through me, and I find myself wanting him even more.
“And what if I want all three of you?”
He leans in closer, his lips grazing my ear. “Then it’s up to you to convince me,” he whispers. “Because I’ve never shared.” I shiver at his words.
I hold my breath as he stands up and fixes his pants, backing away from me. He takes one last look at me and moves to leave.
And I realize it’s up to me to convince him. Convince them all.
I pull the blanket off, kneeling at the foot of the bed.
“Where are we going?” I ask.
He stops with his hand on the doorknob, his profile etched with lines of authority. “Back home. Alina missed you.”
Chapter 14: A Breath Away
Dmitri
I’m facing Nikolai, and I can tell by the set of his jaw he’s ready for a fight.
Our lives hang by a thread, marked by a shadow we’ve come to know as Frostbite. Time is slipping through our fingers, and with every tick of the clock, we’re a step closer to a grave that’s been dug just for us.
“You’re the one telling me that?” I challenge him, my voice a low growl.
Nikolai scoffs, “Why? You’re the one out here playing detective while I’m trying to protect what’s ours. You think I can enjoy luxury while our backs are against the wall?”
I snort. “You’re the one having ‘fun’ on yachts while we’re out here, neck-deep, trying to figure out who this fucking Frostbite guy is.”
His face darkens, a storm brewing in his eyes. “I’m the one having fun? I’m also the one who’s constantly on the receiving end of death threats. Not you, not Aleksandr. My men were slaughtered the other night. Twenty lives, Dmitri. Twenty!”
He’s shouting now, and I anger flares at his implication. “You’re talking like they were only your men. And speaking of Aleksandr, where the fuck is he? He was gone all night.”
