“Don’t call me fucking Bas, and I’m not your fucking son!”

“Dante.” I try to reason. “You don’t wanna hurt her. You know you love her more than anything in this world.” I try to reason with the resident psycho as he believes in his twisted mind that he loves her. and she loves him. I stand close to the wall, and I nod to Pa. He reloads and pulls out his spare, and we run in before anyone can stop us. I hit one guy in the leg, and he goes down. Pa takes another out, bullet to the forehead, and we have our guns covering them all as we stand there in a Mexican standoff.

“Tell your men to leave.” Pa tells Bas.

“You’re outgunned, Dante.” I grin. There's one dead, one with a nasty leg injury, and the other already has his hands in the air and has tossed his gun. He skirts around the edge of the room.

But Dante turns the gun on him and shoots him in the back of the head. “Fucking coward!” he spits, retraining his gun on Ray.

“I want him dead,” Dante spits out, pointing at Steel. “The motherfucker who knocked up my sister. I want him fucking dead.”

I glance at Steel, and his face pales. Yep, that's why we were in such a rush to get her out. We found out that Ray is pregnant. That was the only information we had.

“She won’t take your fucking side if you kill him, dickhead.” I spit back, but Steel steps out in between me and Pa anyway with his gun tucked back in his waistband.

“Let her go, and I will come quietly.”

“Don’t you fucking dare!” Ray spits at him, but Dante has a blade to her throat and a gun to her stomach. There’s a slight line of blood running down her neck where the blade is digging in, and she has various colours of bruising around her eyes and cheeks. Fucking Bas, Dante, whatever the fuck he wants to be called, always slapping her around.

“Steel, please, go!” Ray's resolve is shifting; she’s losing it at the thought of him being hurt, so I subconsciously take a step in front of him.

“Ah, little parasite thinks he can save him! He fucking defiled her, he’s fucking ruined her! Look at her!” he yells, and Ray closes her eyes. Her hands are shaking as she holds them out to the side. She has a bump, a fair-sized one. She must be at least five, maybe six months. Could she have gotten pregnant while she was captive? Did Roach manage to do that? Did we miss it? My stomach churns at the thought, but Dante clearly thinks it's Steel’s.

“I’m pregnant, you fucking dick, not ruined!” She winces as he applies more pressure with the blade.

“Don’t.” Steel steps further forward, and as he does, the others step from the top of the stairs to stand behind us, all with their guns trained on Dante. “Don’t!” Steel says again as he steps forward with his arms out. “Let her go. You can have me. I'll come with you. They'll let you go if you have me. Leave her there and take me.” He drops to his knees with his arms out at the side.

“I don’t fucking want you. I want you dead, and your fucking bastard parasites the fuck out of my sister.”

“Steel turns to look at me, but as he does, Dante lifts his gun and fires a single shot that rips through Steel. It goes into his shoulder, but that’s fucking bad news when you’re wearing a fucking vest. He gasps as he drops to his hip, his eyes shooting back to Ray. He coughs as he drops onto his back, and blood comes out of his mouth. There’s a fucking almighty death-curdling scream, and we’re simultaneously trying to get to Steel and watch Ray at the same time. Still, she forces her way out of his hold, rushing towards Steel, but we’re already there. She turns and kicks Dante in the chest, making him stumble back nearer to the window.

The fucker’s laughing, actually fucking laughing, but she runs, launching herself at him like a fucking rugby player, shoulder to his stomach, hitting him with everything she’s got, and the next thing, they’re both smashing through what remains of the fucking stained glass.

“Doc, get up here now!” Ares barks down his mic. “Steel’s been fucking shot! Bring everything. It’s fucking bad, Doc, hurry!”

Me and Tank are already running to the window, and as we peer out, Dante is impaled on the weather vane that sits on the peak of the roof of the entrance to the church, eyes wide and blood pooling, gasping for breath. Ray is straddling his body with his head in her hands, screaming and smashing his head repeatedly into the roof.

“Ray!” I scream. “Ray!” She turns to glare up at us but loses her balance and topples off the peaked roof. “Fuck, Ray. Do you see her?” I look over at Tank, his pale face shaking his head. We’re three stories up, three high fucking stories at that, and the roof below juts out. As Doc and the guys burst into the room, I turn and run, but Tank’s already ahead of me, and fuck, he can shift for a dude as wide as he is tall. Bursting outside, she’s there on the floor, unconscious. Cade is crouched beside her.

“Don’t move her, don’t fucking touch her!” Tank says as he crouches beside her and turns the side of his face to her cheek. She’s breathing. He sits back on his knees. “She’s fucking breathing!” I pull my phone out and call my dad. “We need two med units now. Steel’s been shot, and Ray took a dive out of a three-story window!”

I cradle my head in my hands as we wait. Dice finds us while the others stay with Steel. He slides his arms around me. “Hey, she’s gonna be okay. Steel’s gonna be okay, and the baby will be okay.”

“Babies!” I say as I close my eyes. “I think she’s having twins.”

“Fuck!” is all we can say as we sit around her and wait. I hear the choppers in the distance, and as they come into view, I stand. A crew comes running towards us, and we step back, unable to do anything but just watch as they try to save my sister and her babies.

“She’s pregnant!” Tank rasps. “Can you save them? Can you save them all?”

“We’ll do our best,” the doctor says as the other crew runs towards us. “Upstairs, third floor,” I grit out but don’t move to follow.

I have to stay with her. They run past and upstairs. Next thing, a guy with a stretcher goes running past, and as they bring Steel down, I’m pretty sure he's still breathing, but they pile him into the chopper with Ares by his side, and they fly off. They fit Ray with a collar and then attach her to a backboard, and once strapped tight, they lift her and take her to the chopper. I climb in next to her as Cade shouts over, “Where are you taking them?”

But we lift off and fly away, too, leaving the guys in turmoil behind us.

Tank

We stand and watch them fly away into the distance, turning to head back inside. “Where the fuck you going?” Dice questions.
