“I’m your only fucking club sister, dick!” and she punches me in the ribs, and I laugh out. I really do fucking love her. Well, I love her rocket launcher anyway. I think to myself as we head back to the chopper with our bags of swag and a grin on my face.

After a few weeks of quiet normality, coffee shop for breakfast, Barbie bringing me lunch at work and making the most of the quiet house, it appears Dice has moved in while he and Dane are doing up their lodge. It seems all the guys have them, and now Bran and Cade, too. It’s the quietest it's been in a long while. We head over to the bar to catch up with everyone. I’ve been keeping my distance from Cade, because, well, shit hit the fan, and now I’m feeling guilty because when I think back on growing up, he was my person, my closest confidant, and I feel like maybe we should just get the test and be done with it.
Cade’s the first person I see walking into the bar, and I groan. I turn and hug Steel. “I’m gonna try and fix this or kill him trying.”
“It’s die trying, baby, but ya know what, I like your version better.”
“Cade!” I bark as I sit at the bar next to him.
“Cade, huh? Not even Pa anymore, then?”
“I’m not calling you anything else till we have the test. I've booked it for two days time, at 10 a.m. I will meet you out front at 9 a.m., and we can discuss our options on the way. Sound fair?”
“Sounds fair.” he grumbles as I rise from the stool. He stops me with his hand on my arm. “I really am sorry, Squirt. You're my world, and I don’t know how to not have you love me back.”
“Cade, I don’t love you any less than before just because I’m mad at you. I still fucking love you, you knobhead!”
“Turning and hugging me, I can’t lose you too, Squirt. I just can’t.”
“Then you won’t.” I give him a kiss on the cheek and head back over to my brother's table.
My phone rings, and it’s Pa Bernie, so I answer it. “Hey Pa, what’s up?”
“Hey, Squirt, I need a favour. We booked a security job for next weekend, and I need a woman, and we have no others free. How are you fixed?”
I groan down the phone. “Details?”
“Ball, the guy's wife can’t make it, but he needs a date, and he thought rather than an escort, which his wife wouldn’t like, he would go with security instead. His family has money but nothing to make him a target. There’s no background of any issues, so it does appear he’s just trying to keep the wife sweet. He’s already got the outfit, so we will send it over. I've arranged the limo so it will pick you up first, then grab him on the way.”
“Fine.” I hang up, flop in my chair, and groan again.
“What’s up, gorgeous?” Steel asks as he sits next to me and starts kissing my neck.
“I’ve gotta do a job for Pa next weekend, security, a fucking ball of all things.”
“Doesn’t sound totally terrible.”
“Yeah, neither did the last one.” I grumble as I rise from my chair and head to the bar. Grabbing the tequila, I head over to talk to Scar. It’s been a minute since we had time together alone.
“Hey, Sis.” She smiles up at me from Ares’s lap.
“Hey, you. You got a minute?”
“For you? Always!”
“Do me a favour, Boyband, and fuck off for a bit, yeah?”
He kisses Scar like he might never see her again and slides out from under her, shoulder barging me out of the way with a feral grin on his face.
“You’re such a lil bitch.” I laugh after him, and he turns, blobs his tongue out and flips me the bird, to which I respond with a bark of laughter. “Knobhead!” I shout after him.
“Where’s your head at?” she says softly as she rests her head on my shoulder.
“Can you ask me an easy one, ya know, maybe the meaning of life, or some quadratic equation, something that I can actually stand a chance of answering.”
I feel her chuckle against me, and then she lifts her head to face me, “It’s been a tough time, huh?”
