“Why am I here?” I groan.

“Because I thought if I carried you back to her place, she might stab me instead of punching me. This seemed the best option.

“Perfect.” I shove myself out of bed and head towards the door, still clothed with my trainers on. I don’t even know what fucking time it is. As I storm through the bar, there’s a screech of a chair being pushed back.

“Hey? How ya feeling?”

I wince as I turn to face Dice, fucking perfect. He’s there, all sexy as hell, his hair glistening and those eyes just devouring every sad inch of me. He’s in faded jeans and a tight pale blue t-shirt with his cut on, and I’m in last night's clothes, stinking of tequila and regret. I close my eyes, give him a two-finger salute, and head out the door.

“Dane, wait.” He grabs my wrist, and I glare down at it and back at him. “I just wanna talk! What’s going on?”

I just shake my head. If I talk, I might vomit, which might make this morning suck more than it already does, so I just snatch my hand back and walk out the door and back to my bed

Steel

There's a knock at the door, which is fucking weird as I can’t remember anyone ever knocking. I shove Hades off my knee, drag my arse off the sofa, and open the door.

“What are you knocking for?” I grumble at Cade as he’s stood there looking shifty as fuck.

“I thought it was the safest option.”

“She’s not here.” I say, stepping back to allow him in.

“Did Dane make it back this morning?”

“Yeah, he went straight to bed. He looked like fucking shit, to be honest.”

“Yep, I literally had to throw him over my shoulder and put him to bed in my room… erm, your room!” He shrugs.

“Your room. I don’t plan on needing it back like ever!”

“You’re happy then? I mean, the two of you? She’s doing good?”

“Yeah, we’re good, and I couldn’t be happier. You’ll have to ask her directly how she is.”

“What do you need, Cade? While I’m enjoying the scintillating conversation, I don’t think you’re here to ask about my marriage.”

“Did she tell you what happened?”

“Kind of,” I reply. I got the gist, and there really didn’t need to be anything else said while she was processing everything.

“I fucked up!”

“Ya think?” I cock a brow, because seriously, dude!

He sighs long, and I get up and make us coffee.

“Do you think it would be ok for me to wait for her to get back?”

“I’ll text her. You know damn well if she doesn’t know you’re here and she walks in, she’ll feel railroaded and split!”

He nods and sits back on the sofa. Fuck, this is gonna be a long morning. It’s my first day off in weeks with the coffee shop and the lodge for Tank and Skye.

“How’s the lodge coming on?”

“I haven’t even been up there since I got here. I really should make a start, but ya know.” He just shrugs.

“I can get the boys to help after the wedding if you like. The coffee shop will be open by then.”
