“Really?”
He just nods but can’t stop the beaming smile across his face. I chew at my lip, glancing back between Tank and the doctor. “Yes… No… Wait! Yes. Yes, I want to know.”
The doctor flips the pages over on the screen. “Congratulations, it’s a boy!”
“A boy?” I gasp.
“A boy!” Tank whoops as he lunges forward and sweeps me up in his arms. His eyes land on mine, and his lips curl into a smile. “A boy.” He grins.
It’s at that moment I know I want everything he offered. I want him, the baby, the family. I want it all, and I lean in and smash my lips to his, taking him and the doctor by surprise. I pull back and throw my arms around his neck. “A boy.” My voice cracks, and my lip quivers, and I know I've never felt happiness like this.
As we leave the clinic, I’m so content and actually excited. I didn’t know if I wanted this baby with everything it stood for and what it meant, but Tank erased all that with those words. “This baby is mine.” He erased every speck of doubt, and now I see a future, a good one, hell, a great one, and I’m finally looking forward to having something good.
As we pull at the club, I take a breath, but as I go to leave the truck, the door is ripped open, and Tank pulls me out and into his arms. I gasp in shock, and he whispers, “Second thoughts?”
I shake my head as his lips crash to mine. I throw my arms around his neck and melt into his firm body, screwing my hand up into the back of his hair and holding his mouth against mine while his tongue invades mine. I sigh and moan around it, and he pulls me in closer, which I didn’t think was possible. He pulls back and whispers, “Are we telling people?”
“Telling people…?”
“About us, about the baby?”
“Erm… I don’t know, why?”
He spins me round in his arms, and the rest of the Psycho Six bar Ray are standing there, staring, right along with Ares. “Just wondering.” He grins at me.
“Oooh,” is all I can get out before I’m placed on my feet. His hand grips mine as we head towards them. I'm aware that I’m still in my PJs from leaving at night and some flip-flops I got from the clinic.
“What’s going on here?” Ares snaps. Dude scares me a little, and I drop my head.
“Nothing.” Tank says as he pushes past his brothers towards the stairs and tugs me up them.
“You can convince Ray of that when she gets back. Good luck with that, Brother!” Priest says.
I’m dragged up the steps. As he closes the door behind us, he grins. “Well, the cat's head is out of the bag. It won’t be long before the rest of it follows!” Then he drops to one knee. “Marry me?”
“What?”
“Marry me. Let's do this properly. We can go to The courthouse, change your name so you never have to use that one again, and we can get married. We can start this properly unless you want a big wedding like Ray and Steel, and we can do that too!”
“Tank, this is all so… sudden. I don’t know.”
“Sure you do.” He winks at me, and I do. I really do know. I’ve never had a boyfriend. I've never even had sex, well, consensual sex, anyway, not with someone I’ve chosen. But at this moment, it’s him. I want him forever, and I can’t imagine it not happening.
I laugh. “Yes!”
“Yes?” He grins as he lifts me off my feet and spins me around as he lets me slide down his body till my feet dangle and my arms wrap around his neck. He looks into my eyes. “I promise to make you and our son happy every day. I promise to protect you both forever.”
He grabs my hand and drags me through to my bedroom. My heart starts pounding. I don’t know if I’m ready for this. It’s all happening so fast. As he pulls me into the room, my mouth dries, and my heart’s hammering. “Now, bed.” He lifts the duvet and taps the bed. “You need to rest. I’ll go get you food and a drink, okay, love?” I slide in, and he tucks me in, leaning down and kissing my forehead. The panic is soon replaced with disappointment, and I chuckle at myself for the complete 180 in my emotions. Clearly, my head’s all over the place.
Tank spends the next few days waiting on me, hand and foot. He holds my hand and kisses me but never pushes for more. He's told me to take some time to figure out what I want wedding-wise, but other than that, he’s been a perfect gentleman, and I’m falling in love with him more every day. We haven’t told Steel yet as he’s busy helping Demi with the coffee shop-come-bakery while Ray’s away, but he’s not himself either, so I’m going to wait till Ray’s back to talk to them both.
After a good few days of house arrest. God, now I know how Ray felt. Tank asks me to take a walk with him. We head out on the lane past the clubhouse, up past the gym and the barn. As we round the trees, there’s a lovely lake in the shape of a heart with some wooden cabins around it.
“Ah, it’s so pretty up here, Tank.”
“You like it up here?”
“Yeah, it feels so remote and free.”
