He whines at me and nudges my elbow. I scruff my unbroken fingers around his head. “Fine, Hades, you can come home with me, but we both need a bath. You fucking stink.” With that, he barks at me and lays across the seat, resting his head on my lap. “Dickhead!” I mumble at him as I fumble to start the car and move with all my injuries.
We head off, keeping to the back streets and keeping a low profile. Driving at the speed limit and using my signals is fucking challenging, to say the least. As we get nearer to Ravenswood, it’s getting busier. Looking at the clock on the dash, it says 9 a.m.
I have to take the long way around to avoid getting noticed. As I get nearer the MC, I hear the warning siren sound. There's no way I’m sneaking up on my husband or my brothers. As I pull into the parking lot, it’s nearing 10 a.m. There’s shouting and guys running around.
Steel storms out of the clubhouse, his gaze catching mine as he storms towards the car and grabs the handle. Hades shoots out of my lap, growling and snarling at the door. “Whoa there, dickhead, he’s mine!” I snap at the dog. He looks at me, then back at Steel. “Hades, no!” I snarl, and he whimpers.
Steel slowly opens my door and pulls me out, crushing me in his arms. “Fuck… baby, you’re never leaving my side again. We thought you were dead. I thought you were dead. I've been worried sick.”
I wince as he crushes me to him, and Hades growls beside me as he stalks out of the car.
“So you stopped to pick up a stray?” Steel cocks a brow at me, looking at him… really looking at him, his face is puffy, his eyes rimmed in red, and he looks like he hasn’t slept for a week.
“Steel, this is Hades, Hades, this is Steel!” Hades cocks his head at me again and just stands there.
“Well, okay then. Let’s get you in to see Doc. I love you, but you fucking stink and need a bath!”
Turning to Hades, he says, “That means you, too, dickhead.” He whines, which makes us both laugh as I look over towards the club house. The guys are gathered there, and Dice and Bernie both look a mess. “I’m fine, just a few bumps.”
Bernie walks over to me, and Hades growls. Bernie shoots him a look, and he stops. He hugs me. “Fuck, Squirt. Thought I’d lost you. I’m sorry.”
“Don't be. I’m good. Where’s Joseph?”
“We secured him in one of the rooms for now. The barn was too secluded to keep a close enough eye on him.” He laughs.
“Brill, I will get patched up, then I’m gonna put the fear of me in that bastard!”
Bernie laughs again. “You did that when you threw him off a fifth-floor balcony!”
“Hey, he survived, didn’t he?”
Dice steps in to give me a hug. “Fuck, Ray, we lost signal, we couldn’t find you… I couldn’t find you.” He shakes his head and steps back. I give him a tight smile.
Steel shoves me towards the MC. “Come on, let’s go see Doc.” As we walk off, Hades follows right at my side, Steel swinging the door open for me, and I push in past him.
Ares is right there. “Fuck, Ray!” He grabs me for a hug. There’s a low growl that radiates from Hades. “Fuck, Hades, give over. These are my brothers, okay.”
“You just decided in the middle of a job to pick yourself up a dog, like that’s normal?” He cocks his head at me.
“He kind of found me, then hid me while they were looking for me. I probably would have been caught by those bastards if he hadn’t, then he just followed me, and here we are.”
“Perfect.” Ares smiles at me, then fusses at the dog's head. “Fuck, you two stink!”
“No shit, Sherlock. I’m gonna see Doc, and then I’m heading home for a bath.” He nods as I stride down to the medical room.
As we enter, he says, “Fuck’s sake, Reaper!”
“It looks worse than it is.”
“I’m the doctor. I will tell you that. Sit!” He points to the bed. As I climb up, Hades nudges Steel to get in, then pushes into the room and sits beside the bed.
“Friend of yours?” Doc cocks a brow.
“Yup.” Doc checks me over a sprained ankle and wrist, feet cut to ribbons, three broken fingers and a dislocated shoulder, no skin on the palm of my hand, smashed in shins, bruises everywhere, and a swollen cheek with a cut that will be fine with wound closure strips. It's split, but not too deep.
I must have hit my face as I tried to stop on the first balcony. After I’m patched up, we head around the back of the garage for Hades to do his business before heading back home.
The girls, Carmen, and Viking, are waiting for me when I get back. The girls rush at me, clinging onto me like I will disappear if they don’t. “I’m okay.” I breathe into their hair, smiling down at them.
