“Yeah.

“Don’t leave the apartment till I get back. Beauty and Tank will be there with you.” I don’t wait for an answer.

Grabbing the dog’s tactical harness and dog gas mask, I storm out into the apartment. “You ready, boy? Shit’s about to go sideways. Wanna test that training out?”

Hades barks at me and lets me put on his gear. “Work mode, Hades. Toilet!”

Hades runs down the stairs and round the back to do his business. Skye comes out into the apartment, takes one look at me and just nods. I hear a screech of tyres. I head out down the stairs. Tank is pulling up with Beauty. They both get out of the truck, and Beauty runs to me.

“Ray, what’s happening?”

“I’m not sure. I just know they’re in trouble! Do not leave my apartment till we’re back! Tank, stay with them. Skye’s inside!”

There’s another screech of tyres, and everyone spins around. Ares and the rest of my brothers are standing in front of the clubhouse, mouths open. The screech is from a black military armoured vehicle. Black King is behind the wheel, and Black Rook gets out from the back, both dressed in full tactical gear, balaclavas and gas masks.

“Hades, come!” I shout as I slide my gas mask on and pull my balaclava on over the top, tucking it into the neck of my top. The only skin visible is our hands. Black Rook opens the boot. “Hades, in!” I tell him as I approach the vehicle. Hades jumps into the back. Ares is still standing there catching flies as I dive into the front seat, and Black Rook climbs into the back. Tossing him my phone.

“Video from Steel, trace it!”

We screech out of the car park, leaving the guys from the MC with more questions and no answers.

“Head north, Black Rook. Find me my fucking husband.”

He doesn’t say a word, just flips the tray down with his laptop attached and goes to work after about fifteen minutes of driving blind he informs us.

“Got him! Uploading coordinates!”

The map screen on the dash springs to life and starts puking out directions. We’re about forty minutes out.

“Wanna talk about it?” Black Rook asks.

“Nope, stay on mission. Emotions will get us killed. This has to go down like any other job! It can’t be personal!”

“Ray— ”

“I said it can’t be personal, Black Rook. That’s when things get sloppy! I can get fucking emotional when I’m home, with my husband, in my arms, in my bed. Till then, it’s business as usual!”

“Affirmative!” Black Rook says, and we drive in silence for the next thirty minutes.

“Ten minutes out!” Black King breaks the silence.

Black Rook leans over, clips the cameras and mics to Hades' tactical harness/bulletproof vest, and adjusts his gas mask.

“You ready, boy?”

He barks in reply.

“Boots on the ground in seven minutes, dog in, surveillance mode only. I want to know what we’re up against. If it’s the so-called ‘Armoury’, capture the main players for interrogation. Everyone else… Eliminate!”

“Site images show a cluster of four warehouses, suspects potentially in the northeast corner,” Black Rook informs us.

“Park in the trees to the southwest, approximately one klick from the target building. Go in on foot!”

We load up and move out, checking the other three warehouses, and we move closer to the fourth.

“Visual on two targets, move around extinguish from the rear.”

Moving into position, I nod as Black King grabs one guy. I grab the other, plunging the blade into their carotid and tossing them aside. Black Rook opens the door.
