I couldn’t respond to his praise, too far gone in sensation to string together a coherent thought, but I felt my pussy tighten as his words took me closer to the edge. At the constriction, I heard Alex grunt in almost pained pleasure. He hitched my leg higher up on his hip, spreading me wider so he could get deeper. I let out a choked moan at the sensation, every thrust hitting the spot deep inside me that made me see stars.

I felt my orgasm building, moans and cries falling from my throat as Alex kept up his pace, working into me over and over.

“Tell me you’re mine.” He punctuated the command with a sharp snap of his hips, the motion sending me close to the edge.

“Yes,” I gasped out, agreeing, “Yours.”

He kept up the punishing pace, and I was unable to meet his thrusts, just taking everything he gave as I exploded over the edge. My muscles tensed as the orgasm hit, and I screamed Alex’s name as he bottomed out, hips meeting mine as he came inside me a few thrusts later, moaning his release.

My body shook from the aftermath of three back-to-back orgasms, my mind fuzzy from pleasure as I came back down. Alex pressed sweet kisses across my cheekbones and jaw as I gulped down deep breaths, waiting for my heart to stop racing. After a few moments, he pulled out, disappearing into the bathroom while I allowed myself a few moments to process everything that had happened. Surprisingly, not a single part of me regretted it. Even if it was sudden and unexpected, every part of being with Alex had felt right, and I now knew for sure that our sexual chemistry matched the emotional connection we had forged over the past few weeks.

Alex emerged from the bathroom, carrying a damp washcloth in his hands.

“I’m on the pill,” I murmured to him as he used the cloth to clean his come from between my thighs. “And clean.” I had gotten checked at my last doctor’s appointment, and was suddenly thankful my gut insisted I get checked after Peter walked out on me.

Alex’s lips twitched in humor as he told me, “I know, Ames.” I rolled my eyes, wondering if there was a single part of my life this man was unaware of. Any stone in my digital footprint he hadn’t unturned. “And I’m clean too, of course. I wouldn't risk giving anything to my girl.”

I flushed at the possessive term as Alex pulled one of his t-shirts over my naked body, smoothing the fabric over my sides and hips as he crawled into the bed next to me. He pressed a kiss to my lips, softer than the biting, rushed kisses from earlier. It was still early, the sun barely having set, but I couldn’t find it in me to argue as sleep pulled me under, the last thing I heard Alex’s voice in my ear as he whispered, “Goodnight, sweetheart.”

Chapter24

Her

The next morning,it was like a switch had been flipped inside Alex. He had staked his claim, made me recognize where I belonged, and had fully committed to seeing it through. The moment my eyes opened the next morning, his lips were on mine, tongue licking at the seam of my lips until I opened for him. He quickly worked his way down my body, until his face was between my legs, licking and sucking as his fingers thrust into me, his name on my tongue when I screamed my release.

We went for coffee before my morning classes, and though there was no lingering awkwardness or uncertainty on either side, I was caught off guard by the sheer affection Alex must have been holding back all this time.

His hand was constantly holding mine, tugging me close to his chest as he walked or as we waited in line. He wrapped his arm around my shoulders as we chatted to Adam and Delon, pressing occasional kisses to my temple as he listened to us speak. When he left me outside the studio, our goodbye was punctuated by a searing kiss that had a few of my students swooning.

“I can’t imagine Alex putting on a PDA-filled show,” Wren said with an eager smile that afternoon. Dev had dropped me by the flower shop after work, explaining that he and Alex had some business and Wren would have to drive me home after she closed up.

I didn’t mind, nor was I focused on my ride home, too busy ignoring the pleased, knowing looks Dev kept shooting in my direction. You would think he was the one who got laid last night. When I told him so, Dev burst out a loud bark of laughter that almost sent us swerving off the road.

“I don’t think it’s a show,” I tried to explain, hopping on the counter next to Wren as she put together a bouquet. This one was all sunflowers, bright and cheery with a white tulle bow to tie them together. “You should have seen him with Delon and Adam. I don’t even think he consciously noticed what he was doing, to be honest. It’s more like…like he’s been holding himself back this whole time, and now he’s free to treat me the way he’s always wanted.”

“Like I’ve always said, he’s a romantic. Or at least he is when it comes to you.” She sighed, eyes dreamy until she glanced up at the clock. “Either way, I’m too excited to see it.”

After closing up her shop, Wren drove like a demon to get to the house, cackling with excitement at the idea of seeing Alex’s PDA. She shaved off a full five minutes by the time we got to the house, and I stood out of the car on shaky legs that threatened to buckle if I didn’t stay on solid ground for the next few minutes.

I found my footing just as Alex emerged from the house, making his way straight toward me in quick strides. His hands cupped my face as he pressed his lips to mine, nipping at my bottom lip as he pulled back a few inches to look into my eyes. “Hey, sweetheart.”

“Hi.” The word came out breathy, Alex’s warmth and scent doing funny things to my body and my heart now that I wasn’t still trying to put up walls between us. I had given up last night, sometime between walking back into the house and waking up to Alex this morning.

I shook myself out of my thoughts as Dev emerged from the house behind Alex, making his way over to us. It took a few minutes before I caught Wren’s facial expression. Her eyes were wide as she mouthed ‘Holy fuck!’in my direction.

I realized both of Alex’s arms were wrapped around my waist as he spoke with Dev, his chin resting on the top of my head in a comfortable pose. Just as I went to mouth back at her, I felt Alex’s lips brush against the top of my head, then my temple, in small kisses, even as he continued his conversation with Dev.

“What theactualfuck?” Wren covered her mouth with both hands as she caught her outburst, both Dev and Alex glancing in her direction with confused expressions. Unable to keep it in, I broke down laughing, putting my hands on my knees to keep myself upright as my stomach contracted in laughter. Wren was close behind, having to lean against her car to stop from falling on the ground.

Alex rubbed soothing circles on my back as I laughed, sending Wren into a further fit of giggles, and the cycle continued for minutes until we both finally caught our breath.

“Now that that’s over, would you like to head inside?” Alex’s dry voice had us both straightening, Wren still brushing tears out of her eyes. But something about his stance had me nervous, his eyes meeting mine for a long beat before he led us toward the house.

We all filed in through the front door, my steps stuttering as I made my way through the foyer. I glanced into the rooms I could see from the foyer, something tickling the back of my mind as I took in what should feel familiar but felt decidedly new. My eyes finally snagged on the small bowl next to the front door, the one I had made in one of my first classes with June and kept by my apartment door as a catch-all for change and the small trinkets I always found in my pockets at the end of the week.

Then my eyes caught on the skull rug, which had decorated my bedroom at the apartment, but was now laying haphazardly in the living room, as if someone had been unsure where to put it. I took a few more steps forward, dragging Alex behind me with our hands still intertwined until I could see the sunroom, realizing the almost-bare windows were now overflowing with my plants. I watched as Nyx batted at the leaves of a long-trailing pothos, noting that I’d have to trim the vines a little shorter.

“Alex, what’s going on?” My voice shook as I turned toward him, eyes narrowing as I tried to process everything I saw around me.
