"Ladies and gentlemen," Cole announces, holding out a glass for me as we descend the stairs, "the star of the show."

I take the glass from him, smiling so much that my cheeks hurt as he places a whisper of a kiss on my forehead. "Thank you," I say to him.

As we take to the stage, the music swells louder, filling the air with a pulsing beat that matches my heartbeat. Cole has lifted Annie into his arms, and seeing them together laughing makes my heart swell with happiness.

Cole addresses the crowd as I try to stop my hands from shaking, his compliments making me blush even harder. "You did it, Saffy." Raising his glass in a toast, he says, "You created something incredible. We're all just along for the ride."

I shake my head in protest, but he just laughs and leans in for a kiss as everyone cheers. Annie protests at us kissing and throws her small arms around me. I put my glass down and hug her back. The applause continues until I take the microphone tothank everyone. I'm almost at a loss for words and grateful when it's time to start mingling.

The first person I see when we step off the podium is Jonah. He’s standing with Maria, the lawyer from Mateo's pack who drew up my contract last year.

She smiles broadly when we approach. "Congratulations, Saffy. All good things, from what I hear."

I smile back at her. "Thank you for coming," I say, hugging the woman I've gotten to know quite well this past year, having used her legal services for all our contracts. "I hope Jonah's taking good care of you?"

From the corner of my eye, I can see the panic rising in Jonah's face. I don't know why he doesn't just admit he likes the sexy lawyer instead of playing games. I can't help winding him up, though.

"Oh, we didn't come together," Maria says, laughing nervously. "I was just going to get a refill." She waves her empty glass.

"I'll get it," Jonah says, giving me a kiss on the cheek before he walks off. Maria follows him while Cole and I glance at each other before we burst out laughing.

"Don't say it!" he chuckles. "I have no idea what's going on there. He could do a lot worse, though."

"But does he know that?" I ask, rolling my eyes.

I'm glad we insisted on keeping the launch party small with only minimal press so I can mingle with the friends and the employees who helped make this happen. Charlotte comes over to offer her congratulations, but really, it's me who's grateful to have her on board. Her level head has kept me calm throughout the development phase, and she more than deserves the new permanent position Cole has offered her on the West Coast.

The afternoon slips into the evening, and Cole and I take to the dance floor. "Annie looks so happy," Cole says, his slightstubble tickling my cheek. "It's because of you, you know. She loves our family."

I smile at him but shake my head. "I think it's got a lot to do with her dad as well. You brought her here, and you set in motion everything that's made that little girl so happy."

"Finding you was the best thing of all," he murmurs. "I've never been so happy, either."

He spins me around and captures my waist, pulling me close again. "Very smooth, Mr. Matherson," I laugh.

"You haven't seen anything yet," he whispers, his voice full of promise.

Cole

"I can't believe she's still asleep," I say in complete awe as I carry Annie into the house.

Saffy chuckles and kisses the top of Annie's head. "She is partied out."

"I'll go get her settled. More settled, I mean."

I carry my sleeping daughter into her bedroom. After tucking her in, I head across the hall to our room. Stopping at the door and leaning against the frame, I take in the sight in front of me. Saffy is unzipping her dress with her back to me, exposing the soft curve of her back. The dress pools around her waist and then drops to the floor. My mouth goes dry as my gaze falls to the string underwear she's wearing that frames her buttocks. Slipping my hand into my pocket, I feel the ring box that's been waiting all day for the right moment.

Stepping into the room, she gasps as I pull her hard against me. Sweeping her long red waves to one side, I kiss her neck, making her arch for more as she leans into my touch.

"I'm so proud of you, Saffy," I whisper. "More importantly, you should be proud of yourself. What you have achieved is remarkable."

"I love you, Cole," she sighs as I turn her to face me.

Staring into her eyes, I've never been more sure of anything. I drop to my knees, and confusion flits across her beautiful face in the moonlight.

"Saffy," I begin, taking her hands. "We are mates in every way that matters, but you deserve everything I can give you. Marry me?"

I pull the ring box out and open it in front of her. Her eyes go wide, and a tear slips down her face as she nods. "Yes. Oh my God, Cole. Yes!"
