The man tips his hat. “He instructed me to tell you he’s putting the last-minute touches on a project and will be waiting for you at the destination.”

“Where is the destination?” Trish asks.

“The penthouse suite at the Fairmont Hotel,” he replies.

“The Fairmont? That’s the most expensive hotel in the city.”

Trish looks at me, wide-eyed. “Griffin Grimm is taking you to the Fairmont?”

I nod, too overwhelmed to speak.”Go,” Trish says with a grin. “You don’t want to keep him waiting.”

I smile, my heart beating madly. Here goes nothing.

Inside the limo, I take a deep breath and try to relax. I’m terrified and excited all at the same time. I don’t know what to expect from him, but I’m sure it will be incredible.

The only other time I’ve been in a limo was prom night. This one is much nicer. There is champagne and strawberries on ice waiting for me. I pour a glass of champagne and take a sip. The bubbles tickle my nose, and I try not to laugh. I feel like a princess in a fairy tale, but I know this is real life. Griffin is a real person, and he chose to take me out on a date.

As the limo pulls up to the hotel, my stomach is in knots.

I take a deep breath, trying to steady myself. The driver opens the door for me, and I step out of the car. The Fairmont is even more impressive up close, and my heart is racing as I make my way inside. The concierge greets me with a smile and asks if I’m here to see Mr. Grimm. He takes me to a special elevator. When the doors open again, I’m greeted by a stunning view of the city at night. The penthouse suite is luxurious, with a large living area and a spacious balcony overlooking the city.

My pulse is racing like we’re running a 10k as I make my way to the balcony. Griffin is standing out there in a tuxedo, looking out at the skyline. He turns around and smiles when he sees me.

“You look beautiful,” he says.

“Would it be weird to say you do too?”

“I’m beginning to expect the unexpected when it comes to you.”

He leads me back inside to a table set for two with silver domes covering the plates.

I sit down, taking in the opulence of the room. This is definitely not what I’m used to, but it’s exciting to be experiencing it all with Griffin. He takes a seat across from me, and we begin to eat. The food is delicious, but I can’t focus on it with Griffin’s piercing blue eyes locked onto mine. The way he’s looking at me is making my heart race faster than the champagne from the limo ever could.

“You know,” he says, breaking the silence. “I didn’t bring you here just to have dinner.”

“I should hope not. Why did you leave this morning, Griff?”

Chapter Eight

Griffin

Itake a deep breath and look at her, trying to find the right words. “I had to take care of something,” I say, trying to sound as casual as possible.

“Something?” she says, raising an eyebrow at me.

“You deserved a more romantic sendoff to your virginity.”

“More like good riddance.”

“No, baby. No. You waited this long. I’ve waited a long time too.”

She looks perplexed by that. “Waited for what?”

I change the subject. “Did you like the song I wrote?”

Mallory smiles. “It’s beautiful.”

“Would you like to hear it?”
