Page 74 of His to Ruin

I settle into the chair just as Mrs Hawkins walks around the class setting the paper face down on each desk. It happens so fast but as soon as Mrs Hawkins back is turned my head is roughly pulled back by my hair that I have tied up in a bun.

“I heard you left school today with Caleb. Keep your fucking whore eyes off him or else,” Christy snares into my back before releasing her punishing grip on my hair. I wince at the sharp pain to my scalp.

“You can now turn over your papers and begin,” Mrs Hawkins instructs the class. I try not to think about what just happened and focus but I can’t. I want to turn around and smack her in her stupid face, but I don’t.

Lifting my pen I keep my head down and get midway through the paper with confidence that its going well.

That is until I’m suddenly knocked out of my concentration when my seat is jolted forward causing my pen to mark the across page just as I’m about to tick a multiple-choice question. I’m not having this.

I turn around to her burning with fury.

“Knock it off,” I whisper shout, only Mrs Hawkins catches me.

“What is going on Miss Richmonds?”

“Nothing,” I reply giving Christy a rage filled glare.

“There is no talking allowed Miss Richmonds. Disrupt the class one more time and you’re out, do you understand me?”

I feel my cheeks heat telling her I understand.

Ten minutes pass but it happens again, and again. I try to ignore it as best as I can until a sharp pain hits the back of my arm and frustration gets the better of me.

With clenched fists I jump to my feet, “What the hell is your problem?” I yell at Christy. I’m shaking with temper, teeth barred ready to snap.

“What on earth is going on?” Mrs Hawkins shouts but I’m too focused on Christy’s face. The bitch is smiling like the cat who got the cream. Fuck. I just give her exactly what she wanted. To get me kicked out of this class so I would fail. I shake my head turning back in my seat.

“No you don’t Miss Richmonds.” Mrs Hawkins says motioning to the door with a pointed finger. “Get out of my class.”

“You can’t be serious,” I tell her in annoyance. I didn’t start this shit.

“I’m plenty serious. I warned you. One more disruption and you were out. Now leave before I call the principle.”

I could tell Mrs Hawkins the truth. Tell her what Christy was doing but I get the impression the outcome would have been the same regardless and I’m no snitch.

I give Christy a scathing look before lifting my bag and storming out of the room with low sniggers from the class filling my ears.

I’m halfway down the hall so enraged that I don’t notice Ryder Ashby, a popular football jock step in front of me blocking my path with his arm.

“Hey, hey, hey, slow down. Why the frown? I bet I could put a smile back on that pretty face of yours,” Ryder says just before he’s slammed up against a locker so fast it makes me jump out of my skin.

He throws his hands up in the air in protest to none other than Caleb who is holding him up by the scruff of his football hoody.

“Yo Caleb man, I’m sorry, I didn’t realise she was yours,” Ryder sputters. His face turning a deep shade of red when Caleb doesn’t let go.

I’m so angry about what just happened in class that I don’t even hang around to hear what bullshit is to come from Caleb’s mouth. I reach the girls restroom locking myself in the stall. Only when I’m positive its empty do I let the tears I was desperately holding in fall. I hold my head in my hands as big ugly tears slide all the way down to my chin. I must have done something really wrong to deserve this bad karma that’s following me everywhere I go and I don’t know how to stop it.

I clamp my hand over my mouth when I hear the restroom door swing open.

“Oh my god did you see how she acted in class? How embarrassing.”

“It’s called attention seeking,” someone says.

“When your desperate enough to be friends with Lexy what do you expect? That girl screams desperation.”

“I know right. How much more embarrassing can you be.”

“Yeah well, she sure has the hots for Caleb, Christy. Did you see the way she keeps looking at him? Like stalker much.”
