Prologue

Daniel

“Daniel let’s go I can’t be late to this meeting.”

“Coming Dad.” I rush downstairs out the door and into the car.

“Who’s the meeting with Dad?”

“Micheal.” I’m not a big fan of the guy but he always comes back and he’s good for business. When we get to the lake Micheal was there with a girl that looks a little younger than me and very cute. Dad and I walked over to them and the girl didn’t look up right away. She glances up at me then looks down quickly. She is very cute and shy it makes me want to kiss her cheek and see if her cheeks will turn pink.

“Daniel take Kate to the side so I can talk to Micheal.” So her name is Kate I like it.

I walked over to her and I reached out for her hand. She hesitated for a second then took my hand. I walk her over to the bridge and I look over to her, she was not looking at me. I want her to look at me I want to see her eyes.

“It’s nice to meet you Kate.” I say in a soft voice. She looks up at me and gives me a bright smile and her eyes are a beautiful golden brown. I can’t keep my eyes off of her.

“It’s nice to meet you too Daniel.” She says in a soft sweet tone. She looks over to her father and the light in her eyes change and I don’t like it.

“Is something wrong?” I ask.

“Nothing.” She says quickly as she shakes her head not looking at me again.

“You can tell me if something is wrong Katy.”

“My name is Kate not Katy.” She says in a strong tone. I smile she’s feisty I like it.

“I know, but I’m going to call you Katy.” She tilts her head like she’s confused about something.

“Why? We are not friends or anything, we just meet.”

“You are my Katy now I will be there for you if you need me and I will protect you.”

“You are probably a few years older then me how are you able to protect me?” I don’t know why she’s trying to keep me at a distance what did he do to her?

“I have my ways Katy.” I go in my pocket and grab a piece of paper and pen I have in my pocket and wrote my number on it.

“If you ever need me just call this number and I’ll be there in a heartbeat Kate.” She looked into my eyes and the light is back in them that’s much better. She grabs the paper and places it in her pocket. She looks out to the water and smiles. I grab her hand and kiss it her cheeks turn pink. Like I thought so freaking cute.

“Daniel let’s go.” Kate squeezed my hand, I look at her face and she looks scared. What the hell is he doing to her? I will keep an eye on her from now on.

“Katy just remember you have my number and that you are mine now.” I kiss her head then walked over to where my father was. I look at Micheal and glared at him. If I find out he is hurting her in any way I will make him pay and anyone else that hurts her.

Chapter One

Seventeen Years Later

Daniel

It’s eleven thirty at night and I’m trying to get Lily back to sleep she had a bad dream the poor thing. I’m rubbing her back as she starts to drift to sleep, my phone goes off. Shit Lily looks up at me, but her eyes close and she falls back to sleep. Thank God. I stayed there for ten minutes rubbing her back until I knew she was fully asleep. I placed her on the bed and grab my phone as I walk out of her room.

Christopher- Nicole is in labor. We are almost at the hospital now.

Daniel- I’m on my way.

Christopher- He’s finally going to be here soon get over here.

Daniel- I know I’m excited too, see you in five.
