Her words—my undoing.

I step forward, careful not to let our bodies touch, and slowly undo the remaining buttons on her shirt. My middle and index fingers trace the exposed skin that the shirt shows when it falls open, and I’m rewarded with a sharp breath intake from Kaylee.

My hands dip on either side of her bottoms, toying with the band. I pull it low, then leave it, placing my palm between her legs and rubbing the spot through her cloth.

“You tease.”

I shrug.

“You did yours when you had me dangling and foaming at the mouth from your words. I’m impatient, but a man deserves to show his woman some payback. This is yours.”

I do it a second time and a third with more pressure, but her hand stops me when I try again.

Kaylee slaps my hand away and drags down her pajama bottoms hastily, revealing that she has nothing underneath.

“Good.” I nod, smiling.

She goes to bed and lays on it. With her legs spread, an irresistible invitation between them. Kaylee crooks her finger.

“What are you waiting for?”

“Do you want a baby?”

The words jump out of my mouth before my brain processes them, shocking me. I quickly shake my head. “Of course, you don’t. Let me get some protection.”

“You have?”

I shrug. “I’ll be back.”

I return with two, dangling them from my fingertips.

Kaylee laughs, throwing her head back.

“You weren’t lying.”

“I wasn’t. I haven’t used these in years, but I had them in my room. You never know when this—” I unabashedly take in her appearance, “will happen, and I’m a man who likes to hope.”

“Well, for a man who’s been hoping, you’re too slow.”

“Am I?”

“Yes, you are,” she teases.

I get what I need from the drawers and rejoin her on the bed.

Soon enough, Kaylee is a panting mess beneath me, and I’m close to snapping. I take my time, though—because every moment with her is a memory I want to be etched in my brain.

When she comes—shuddering and whimpering with my name on her lips, I hold her tight and let go, bringing it full circle.

CHAPTER 20

Kaylee

“Kaylee?” Madison says, wide-eyed.

“Yup,” I take a second from the eggs on the pan to nod at her.

She giggles. It’s a pretty name.”
