He glanced up and shot his crooked grin at her and winked. Her heart melted, and a shock burned deep in her gut and sparked sensations in her nether region which hadn’t come alive in a long time. Her breathing picked up pace, and when a deep manly laugh came from Adler and he picked Skylar up far above his head, causing her to squeal with excitement, that was it. Everything about this man made Leila want him. Not only was he handsome, sexy, and sweet, he was a natural with Skylar.

Her stomach growled and diverted her attention.

Adler placed Skylar on the floor and chuckled. “Was that your stomach growling?”

“You heard that?”

“Yeah, it was loud enough I’m sure your neighbors heard it.”

Leila pursed her lips. “Whatever.”

Adler stood with Skylar in his arms, then put his hand out. “We need to eat. You’re hungry.”

He grabbed her hand and pulled.

“Yeah, I am.” When she stood, she ended up inches from him and wasn’t sure if it was food she was hungry for, or Adler.

Skylar leaned toward her. Right now, all she had time to be hungry for was food. She couldn’t do anything about her other appetite until Skylar was napping.

As they ate, they talked, and Leila fed Skylar sweet potatoes and baby rice cereal. She ate so well, even though the stench that came from the food disgusted Leila, but she wasn’t the one eating it, and Skylar sure didn’t seem to mind.

“Tell me more about what your dad does.” Leila was curious. She knew they owned and operated Warfield Meats and they had lots of land here, but it was hard to believe the small herd of cattle they had on their land could lead to a business large enough to give them the ability to live like they did.

He told her all about their company, how many cattle they had in Tennessee and then about their ranch out in Texas. As she listened, it made more sense. Skylar started fussing, so Leila cleaned her with a wet cloth and got her ready for a nap while Adler cleaned up their lunch.

“She went right to sleep. I think all your playing wore her out.” Leila watched in awe as Adler cut up fruit. She sat at the counter. “What are you doing, and where’d you get all that fruit?”

He placed strawberries, apples, and peaches in a pitcher that already contained some liquid, stirred it, and poured his concoction in two large wine glasses and passed one to her.

She stirred it around and lifted a brow. “Sangria?”

“Yep.” Adler took a sip.

“I didn’t take you as a sangria kind of guy.” She took a sip. It was really good. And refreshing.

“I’m not, usually. I’m a beer guy, but on a really hot day, sangria tastes good.”

She narrowed her gaze and tilted her head. It still didn’t seem right.

“Okay.” He shrugged. “And my mom loves sangria and taught me how to make it.” He took another drink. “I’ve added some twists of my own, and here you go.” He held his glass up. “Here’s to us, and an amazing future.”

Us? What did he mean by that? “You want there to be an us?” Heat filled her.

Adler bit his lips and placed his glass on the counter.

Leila watched as he walked toward her. Did she turn the air conditioner up too high? It was really getting warm in here.

He pulled her from her seat. “Leila.” He held her hands in his. “I want there to be an us, and I really hope it’s what you want.”

His gaze seared into hers, and the heat from a moment ago ignited throughout her entire body. He wanted them to be an us. The heat ignited a flame. She wanted nothing more right nowthan him. All of him. “Oh, yeah. That’s exactly what I want too.” She couldn’t hold back from him anymore.

She placed her hand behind his neck and pulled him to her. When their lips met, the flame that was burning inside her became an inferno of passion. Their lips devoured each other, and their hands groped and squeezed.

There was nothing Leila wanted right now more than him. She wanted to feel all of him and wanted him to feel her. “Adler.” She pulled slightly away and got lost in the desire which radiated from his eyes. Their breaths were heavy. “I want you to make love to me.”

He leaned away a little more. “Are you sure? We don’t have to.”

“Yes. Yes, we do.” She closed her lips on his again and kissed him deeply. She made sure he understood her words were true. When she backed away, she pulled him to her room and closed the door behind them.
