“Aww.” Kyra gasps behind me. “How sweet.”

“Thank you,” I tell him. “Would you like something to drink? Dinner is almost ready.”

Cash stands at the counter and talks to us while I finish cooking our meal. I watch him bring a beer bottle to his lips, and my imagination takes off. Needing to cool off, I wash my hands and let cold water run over my wrists.

While we eat, Cash charms my sister. By the time I serve dessert, she’s a huge fan of his. When we finish cleaning the kitchen, she announces, “Okay, kids, it’s been a long day, and I have to get up early to open the shop so I’m heading to bed.” She picks Luv Bug up from the doggy bed in the corner. “I’ll take this little terror with me.”

After my sister leaves us alone, Cash leans over and kisses me. “I hope I didn’t run Kyra and Luv Bug off.”

“Not at all,” I reassure him. “We take turns opening the shop, and tomorrow is her day.”

“Then you have a little longer to spend with me.” He smiles down at me.

“Yep.” I lead him into the living room. “Do you want to watch a movie?”

“There’s no way I can resist spending time with my girl.”

He lets me pick the show. “Do you want to watch your mom’s new movie?” I ask him.

“If you want, but I’ve seen them all multiple times.” He smiles. I flip through the channel guide and find a movie that neither of us has ever seen. As I sit next to him on the sofa, his thigh rests against mine, warming me from the inside out. His finger runs little circles on the back of my neck, sending sparks of electricity shooting along my overstimulated nerves. He places his arm around my shoulders, pulling me closer, and I relax against his side.

No matter how hard I try to resist, my eyes begin to grow heavy, and I’m unable to stop a yawn from bursting from my lips. He leans over to whisper, “I need to get going and let you go to sleep,” and his warm breath brushes the sensitive skin beneath my ear.

I’m tempted to argue, but I’m barely keeping my eyes open.

“Would you let me take you out again tomorrow?” he asks when I walk him to the door.

“I can’t.” I hate to refuse him, but Mondays are my book club night. “I have plans.” His eyes darken and I rush to explain. “I belong to a book club at Gatsby Books.”

Cash steps back and smiles down at me. “What about Tuesday, then?” After I agree, he kisses me one last time before leaving.

As I walk down the hall, my sister calls through her closed door, “Damn. The freaking heat you two were throwing off almost caught the apartment on fire.” I step into her room and lay next to her on the huge king-sized bed. Luv Bug snuggles up between us and begins to snore.

“I think I’m falling for him,” I tell my twin as I pet my lazy pooch.

“Girl, that ship has sailed.” She laughs. “You fell hard days ago.” We talk for a few more minutes, and my eyes drift shut as I fall asleep. When her alarm screeches the next morning, I wake up with wild hair and smudged makeup. Shoot. I crashed without taking the time to get ready for bed.

“You need to wash my sheets.” Kyra hits me over the head with a pillow. “You left mascara stains on my new pillowcase.” I stick my tongue out as she walks away.

While she showers, I load the sheets in the washer and listen to her screech when the hot water runs out. Our building’s elderly hot water heater can’t handle more than one job at a time. Oops. My bad.

CHAPTEREIGHT

CASH

Over the next few weeks, I woo my kitten, and we spend nearly every evening together. Sexual frustration is eating me alive, and my cock is tired of my own hand and cold showers, but I refuse to rush Hadley. Thoughts of her luscious, curvy body keep me awake most nights, but I ignore the pain while reminding myself that all the suffering will be worth it once I make her mine forever.

On Wednesdays, I have my club meeting, but for the last few weeks, I’ve been cutting out early to spend time with my girl. “How’s Brady working out at the ranch?” I turn to Cowboy.

“The little fucker is hardheaded, but he’ll learn.” My brother shrugs.

After the whole warrant fiasco, we made sure the dumbass paid off his debt to the bar in Georgia. Then Fifth, the lawyer in our club, arranged for him to perform his community service in Silver Spoon Falls. This is the last chance the little shit will get from us. Brady has his brother to thank for our generosity. I wanted to kick him out and let the law have him. After straightening out the whole mess, I asked Cowboy to put him to work on the ranch. Hopefully, he’ll take this last shot to stay in the club.

I glance at the time and see it’s getting late. We’ve finished the important business, so I pack up to head out.

My brothers aren’t dummies. They know why I’m leaving. “This chick really has you tied in knots.”

Hands coughs violently before holding his stomach and groaning. His normally tan face is pale and lined, and his clothes look like he’s slept in them. “You look like shit,” I tell him.
