MILLY
“I’m thinking about joining a convent when we get back to Belldonnia.” I sigh and pack my cosmetics bag in my suitcase.
“Stop being so melodramatic.” Rose rolls her eyes. “I just got the email that our flights are booked for tomorrow morning.” Thank God for my friend. She’s super-efficient. “And I booked us a room at a hotel next to the airport.” My heart hurts at the thought of leaving this small town and Damien behind. Tears fill my eyes and I sniffle. Rose puts her arm around my shoulders and squeezes. “Are you sure this is what you want?”
“I can’t face him knowing he hates the thought of marrying me.” There isn’t enough cherry chocolate ice cream in the world to make me feel better.
A loud knocking on the front door interrupts us, and I glance up at Rose. “Is that the driver already?”
“Shouldn’t be.” She glances down at her watch. “If it is, they’re over an hour early.”
Rose walks over and looks out the peephole. “Oh my.” My best friend steps back and turns to me, biting her bottom lip.
“What?” I take a step toward her but come to a screeching halt as she opens the door. My knees go weak when I see Damien glaring at me.
“Oof,” Rose steps close to me and whispers.
“I’d like to talk to my fiancée.” Damien glances at Rose and growls, causing all the hair on the back of my neck to stand up. “Alone.”
“I’ll make some coffee,” my traitorous best friend agrees. “Why don’t you help me?” She glances at the huge biker with Damien and smiles.
Damien and Giant step into the small apartment, and all the air seems to heat around us. I swallow, watching Rose and the biker disappear into the kitchen.
“I’m so sorry about the ice bath I gave you,” I whisper and feel those stupid tears filling my eyes. “And I’m sorry your brother is trying to force you to marry me.”
“No one is forcing me to do anything.” Damien steps close, and his spicy scent wraps around me, causing my girly parts to wake up. “You’re fucking mine.” Huh? He continues before my sluggish mind can figure out what in the heck is happening here. “Don’t worry, little peach. You’re going to make it up to me.” I blink several times, wondering if I’m still sound asleep and dreaming this.
He wraps his massive hand around the back of my head and leans down to stare into my eyes. The hunger shining from his deep brown eyes hypnotizes me. “I’m going to spank your luscious ass red and then let you make it up to me on your knees.” Holy cow. This is moving in the opposite direction of what I expected. “I don’t plan to ever let you out of my sight again.”
Hello, twilight zone. “Uh.” My mouth opens and closes silently. My mind can’t catch up. His words from yesterday sneak into my thoughts, causing my backbone to stiffen. I’m not letting the hot prince off the hook that quick.
“Hold up, mister.” I step back, looking my fiercest. “‘My fucking brother really screwed me over this time. I’m fucked and not in a pleasurable way.’” I mimic his accent. “Do you remember that? It was just yesterday that you were complaining about having to marry me.” I slap my hands on my hips and glare up at my hot fiancé. “And today you’re all ‘you’re mine.’” I’m on a roll. “What changed in twelve hours? Are you certifiable?” Leave it to me to fall for a crazy dude.
Damien throws back his head to laugh. “I promise you, I’m perfectly sane.” He runs his thumb over my bottom lip, and I nearly melt into a puddle of goo. “And I was an idiot to act like that.”
“You didn’t answer my question.” I need to know this is for real. My heart can’t handle another hard hit like it experienced yesterday.
“You fucking bowled me over.” Damien smiles down at me. “Somewhere between pouring ice-cold water in my lap and running out the door, you stole my fucking heart.”
“This can’t be real.”
“I promise you it’s very fucking real,” Damien whispers against my lips before kissing the heck out of me. My thoughts scatter as his warm lips move over mine. He slides his tongue into my mouth, and I melt against his hard body.
Damien pulls back and lays his forehead against mine. “Will you have dinner with me tonight?” He smiles. “We can get to know each other.”
“I’d like that,” I agree, and we make plans for later in the day.
After Damien and Giant leave, Rose turns to me. “You are so lucky. That man has it bad for you.”
I hope my best friend is right. I don’t think my poor heart could survive another blow.
“Giant must have some sort of kidney issue. He drank three glasses of water while you guys talked.” Rose chatters on while we unpack our suitcases. “He might need to see a doctor.” My best friend graduated from nursing school six months ago. When my parents died suddenly, Rose decided not to take a job right away so she could help me deal with the upheaval. “Another thing. That man is rude. Like seriously rude. Every time I tried to talk to him, he stepped further and further away from like he was avoiding me.” She laughs causing me to roll my eyes.
My gorgeous friend is used to men falling over themselves to get her attention yet there’s only one man on earth she has eyes for—the King of Belladonna. When she leans down and makes a show of sniffing herself, I almost burst out laughing at the silly expression on her face. “Yep. Still fresh and clean from my shower this morning. Maybe he bats for the other team?” Rose shrugs then jumps to another subject without taking a breath. “I need to cancel our tickets and hotel room, and see if we can extend our lease on this apartment.” She types away while I dig through my clothes, hoping a miracle occurs and I find something to wear on a date with the hot prince.
