Good morning, kitten. I’ll see you soon.

Ispend the afternoon waiting for him to come in. Luv Bug growls from her bed next to the counter, and I glance up to see my blue car stop in front of the shop. My heart races as I watch him unfold from my tiny car.

The bell above the glass door rings as he steps into the small shop. Electricity fills the air. “Hello, kitten.” Cash walks up and places my keys on the countertop “Your car is all ready to go.” He’s wearing a gray business suit and a bright white dress shirt. In the daylight, I get a good look at his handsome face and notice the slight graying mixed with his jet-black hair at his temple. His yummy scent wakes up my girly parts.

“Thank you.” I smile. “How much do I owe you?” I ask and step back to reach under the counter for my purse. I need to get a little distance from him before I self-combust.

“Dinner.” He winks. “After all, you promised.” Having him this close sends my pulse skyrocketing.

Kyra chooses that moment to interrupt. “Hi.” She holds out her hand, and Cash’s eyebrows shoot up. “I’m Kyra, Hadley’s sister.”

“Hello.” He shakes her hand. “It’s nice to meet you.”

“You too.” My sister smiles back. The bell over the door rings as a customer walks in. Kyra steps away to help them, and I turn to Cash.

“Thanks again for getting my tire fixed.”

“You’re welcome.” He leans over and places a kiss on my lips. “I’ll pick you up at six-thirty Friday night.” My brain stops working the instant our lips touch. His finger brushes light circles along my collarbone, and a shiver runs up my spine.

“Great.” Sheesh. I sound like a moron. “I’ll be ready.” I smile awkwardly.

The rest of the week drags by while I both look forward to and dread my date with Cash. Thursday after we close the shop, Kyra talks me into stopping at The Runway Boutique to buy a new outfit. “Come on.” She drags me into the store.

Most businesses in the downtown area of town close early. Only the bars and restaurants stay open late. I glance at the clock and realize the boutique closes in thirty minutes. “We don’t have time to find anything,” I argue. “I’ll wear my black dress.” I hate spending money on clothes.

“No.” My sister drags me to a rack of brightly colored outfits. “You haven’t been on a date in forever. I’m buying you something to wear.” To make Kyra happy, I pick out a new sweater dress and matching shoes.

Friday afternoon, the shop is dead, and my sister tells me to leave early. “Go get ready for your hot date.” She wiggles her eyebrows and I laugh.

Nerves are about to eat me alive. I’m scared of where this is going. Terrified of getting my heart shattered by him.

At six-twenty, I’m pacing a hole in the living room carpet, waiting for a knock on the door. Luv Bug gave up trying to keep up with me a few minutes ago and curled up on the recliner to sleep. I run my hands down the front of my dress, wiping the sweat from my palms. Glancing in the hall mirror, I check out my appearance one last time. I left my hair loose around my shoulders, but I’m regretting that decision as I notice an errant curl that refuses to cooperate. After sticking it behind my ear, I grab my pink gloss and apply another coat. My hand shakes slightly from nerves, and I take a deep breath trying to calm myself. Once I’m satisfied with my appearance, I go back to pacing.

“Would you stop?” Kyra breezes into the living room. “You’re wearing a hole in the carpet.” She drops onto the sofa and starts clicking through the channels on the television. “Remember, text me our signal if you need saving.”

“I doubt I’ll need you to help me.” I laugh. When we were in high school, my overprotective sister came up with a secret message that meansI need help. If I text,I don’t remember turning off my flat iron, my sister knows I’m on a bad date. To rescue me, she’ll call and make up an excuse for me to come home.

There’s a knock at the door, and I take one last peek in the mirror before opening the door. Cash steps in and places a soft kiss on my lips. “Hello, kitten.” Biting my lip, I stare at him. Tonight, he’s wearing black pants and a gray sweater. I’m glad I splurged on the new dress when I see his dark eyes move slowly over my curves. “You look so fucking beautiful.”

Melted. I’m officially a pile of goo. “Hi,” I squeak, sounding like a cartoon character. He places another soft kiss on my lips, kicking my pulse into overdrive, then walks over to pet Luv Bug on the head. I roll my eyes when the little stinker rolls onto her back to give him access to her stomach.

“I’ll have her home at a reasonable hour,” he looks over at Kyra and reassures her. I realize he’s already won over my twin.

“Have fun.” She waves us off.

CHAPTERFIVE

CASH

When my kitten opened the door, I almost swallowed my tongue. My eyes moved over her luscious frame as the hardness down below grew. The way the fitted sweater dress hugs her curves sent every drop of blood in my body straight to my erection.

After helping her into the front seat, I slowly make my way around the SUV, giving myself time to cool down. “I can’t wait to try the Broadway Steakhouse.” Hadley turns to me and smiles. I still see the wariness in her stunning blue eyes, but I plan on winning her over tonight. I keep the conversation light the rest of the way to the restaurant, attempting to put her at ease.

I pull up in front and hop out. I pass the valet my keys before rushing around the SUV to let my girl out. “It looks busy.” I take her soft hand in mine and lead her into the steakhouse.

The place is packed to the gills, and I hold Hadley close as we push our way through the throng of people waiting by the front door. The hostess takes us straight back to the private table I reserved. My eyes move around the room, warning all the other men to keep their eyes and thoughts to themselves.

After placing our orders, I turn to my girl. “How was your week?”
